Buying an office in Miami?!

Great! I think Donald Trump might have some properties for sale?

Between hurricanes & flooding I’m not sure Miami is a good investment. 🤷

This particular development has been in the local news due to a homeowner who refused to sell his house on the site where it was built.

So it's this massive high rise development with a tiny single family home nestled in the middle of it.

Every time I go cycling in that area I have to stop by and look at it because it's so quirky and weird.

This guy Orlando is too stubborn. He should just sell and move someplace nicer with a much better view.

Miami is the perfect city because it’s business friendly and doesn’t extort businesses and its workers with super high taxes and silly regulations.

There’s a reason why Florida is one of the fastest growing states while businesses (and people) are fleeing California and NY.
Super high income taxes, but I think there are taxes and fees that my Floridians tell me they pay that Californians don't pay. States gotta get their money some how.

As far as regulations, yeah California has way too many "bad, just there because" regulations.

I think this is awesome. great to see a nice office being built so people can be in person together and not on silly zoom. I love Miami!!! florida is definitely growing and we went the many times and spent money in 2020 and 2021 to escape the idiotic restrictions that were unnecessary. Florida let people be people and it was fantastic.

Why is everyone moving to Miami? Maybe Cook will be buying something there shortly with all the money he made selling a tiny portion of his Apple stock.

Of course, Floridians have to pay taxes but it’s nowhere near as bad as California.

There’s a reason why California has had the highest net loss of citizens and businesses, and for the first time in its history, lost a congressional seat. Not to mention, they’re billions in the red and trying to find new ways to tax Californians to make up for their massive budget deficit while Florida is one of, if not, the fastest growing state, has a budget surplus, investing heavily in their infrastructure and is #1 in education. Even Disney is planning to spend record amounts to expand and improve DisneyWorld (not Disneyland).

I don’t live in Florida but they’re clearly doing something right.

A true Apple early adopter - house camping outside of an  Store for an iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Would be interested in hearing what “taxes and fees” they are paying in Florida vs California.

This office should be located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The most culturally influential city in Latin America.

No way. Argentina is a beautiful and cultured country but politically it's a spinning magic 8-ball and you don't know what you're going to get from election to election. Miami (my home city) is far, far more stable and predictable than BA. They should certainly keep facilities open in Argentina but Miami's the better choice for growth.

I think it's too late now. He won't get anywhere near as much as he could have before now that his house is surrounded on all sides with sky-high concrete walls.

Perhaps he would get a good price because they would knock down the house and develop it in line with the site. The guy could raise the home and move it to a new site.

Coral Gables is pretty nice city. I go there to see theatre at Actor’s Playhouse a couple times a year (It’s a 3 hour drive for me). I was just there last week. Lots of changes over the past 25 years I’ve been going but at least the main ‘miracle mile’ section of shopping and restaurants still is mostly independents and pedestrian friendly thanks to strict zoning, although the chain restaurants have popped off a block or 2 off the main strip (the Cheesecake Factory and Flemings type). It’s about 20 minutes to downtown Miami, 30 minutes to south beach. University of Miami is in Coral Gables. It’s also still greater Miami so know some Spanish, it’s ~60% Latino. Population ~49,000. It’s a little old fashioned compared to the Brickell and Wynwood and of course the Beach areas. Although if I’m going to the beach I go to haulover beach about 45 minutes north since it’s a nude beach.

Yeah because California with its constant droughts, apocalyptic wildfires, mudslides, earthquakes and atmospheric rivers makes for such wise real estate investment 🙄

Wait, so in addition to tax evasion, they're going to start smuggling cocaine? 😂

I hate Florida. Given a bunch of tech seems to be moving there I'm assuming the state has cut off its nose to spite its face in the form of ludicrous tax incentives? NY did a 10 year tax hiatus for big companies a while back. As soon as the companies started having to pay *anything* they moved...
So the incentive that attracted them to NY was eliminated and they fled the state as a result? Wow imagine that. Except that now in addition to losing any potential corporate tax from those companies, they also lost state income tax from all the employees leaving, property tax from them moving out of their homes, any sales tax attributed to microeconomic transactions by the companies and their employees especially at the local level, etc.

Gotta love these genius states like NY and CA and their big brain economic thinking

Where did you get the smuggling drugs from?

There's a lot of politics being read into this announcement on this forum and well as the headlines on other websites. This office space is about the size of a TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or typical grocery store. The existing Apple office space there is being used for advertising services and as an outpost to Latin America. It's not like they're asking the iOS team to move to Florida.
