It still gets a lot wrong for me. Even basic ones based on public ticker symbols.

ChatGPT is really cool, but it has a concerning failure rate and it does so with wording that makes it hard to notice unless you already know about the topic. That weakens its usefulness.
What are you asking it? Examples?
Coincidentally, my employer (hospital) has now completely blocked all GPT-style LLM sites on the network.
Because of healthcare regulations such as HIPPA.

Studies have already shown that GPT4 is better than the average physician at diagnosing rare diseases.

Yeah except that instead of booking the hotel in London, Kentucky it’ll book a hotel in the UK and then you’ll be stuck with paying for it because it’s too late to cancel. Not sure which world you’re living in. The one where I live, big tech cannot even get spam filtering right.

The AI bust, just like the AI boom, is gonna be epic.
Having been to London, KY, I'd gladly take that UK hiccup. Thanks AI!

AI is the biggest threat to Apple's entire ecosystem.

GPT4 is demonstrating that an LLM can be your super personal assistant. And if LLMs can be your super personal assistant, your iPhone is suddenly no longer that important.

For example, need to plan and book a trip? Just tell your LLM to do it. It can even book tickets for you.

The flight is canceled and you're stranded? No problem. Ask your LLM to automatically call the flight company's customer service department to get a refund and check to see if their terms and service will provide a hotel for you. If so, have the LLM book a hotel.

None of this requires anything other than a screen, an internet connection, and your LLM personal assistant. You don't need to juggle different apps to do this. Just tell your LLM what you want. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you're using an iPhone or a $50 junk phone.
I'll still keep buying iPhones even just for taking pics and listening to music. Nothing will change for me

I'm an AAPL investor. I think about competitive threats to Apple all the time. AI is the single biggest threat. It might not come to fruition. But it's currently the biggest threat.

If a company ever creates an AI super assistant, watch out.
The watch out indeed… given the usage of the new AI platforms already in hacking, misinformation, and other bad actor pursuits the unicorns and rainbows celebrations won’t age well.

wow . tik tok controversy all over again.

Store private data on servers located in China. remind me to remove oe de activate Siri on my Mac.

I won’t go sharing my chats, but if you’ve used it enough you’ll easily run into it.

It is great as a way to help you refine a thought or stimulate new ideas. Since all of those are in areas you’ll catch where it slides off.

It isn’t yet at a place where it actually can think or reason.

Share it. Show us. Based on your last message, you were looking at stock tickers? You realize that GPT4 is trained on old data and does not have live data right?

I've been amazed by GPT4 more than I've been let down. Clearly, it's not perfect but people here seem to think GPT4 isn't a huge deal.

If just an ounce of GPT's ability to hold a conversation and accurately transcribe words makes it in to Siri then I'm happy.

The number of sentences that make current Siri go look something up in Safari instead of speaking an answer or doing the thing I asked it is staggering and far beyond acceptable.

The only way to use Siri today is by learning which commands it accepts and how to pronounce and structure the sentence so that it fits and triggers the response you want.

Not much of a virtual assistant when you have to assist it in assisting you.

i can concur, i actually used chatgpt to peer review a legal document and realized i missed a clause or two.

Yes, and all that will be very worrying WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY AVAILABLE!

In the real world, AS ALWAYS, what we have is not a gap between Apple capabilities and, eg, Google capabilities; what we have is a gap between Apple hype (none) and everyone else hype (endless).

In the real world, interaction with things like chatGPT is already falling off rapidly. And we've all read the stories of people who were stupid enough to absolutely believe what an LLM told them without verifying.
Which does not mean that LLMs are useless and unimportant; but it does mean that they are not ready for prime time.

What we are seeing is yet another crank of the idiot cycle, whereby some new shiny thing (netbooks! voice assistants! fitness bands! LLMs!) appears; we are assured (by people with zero knowledge of the tech sector, and abysmal track records) that Apple is DOOMED because they do not have the same garbage offerings in this space as everyone else; only to see three years later that Apple introduces the first actually useful variant of the idea (often very different from the original hype) and cleans up.

Define AI bc yeah... apple has been implementing it even on hardware for years.

LLMs are great but not there yet. Not even google uses it on its assistant. Apple has to deliver some sort of local indexer (or a pretty small model, someone the other day published one that will fit a floppy disk) to talk securely to a server without disclosing personal data, in a secure manner. It will come... it will be Apple way.

No other company included AI (or ML) cores into their CPUs, Apple saw this coming long ago.

Foxconn is a Taiwanese company.

Taiwan is not part of the CCP

You are correct that it's Taiwanese, but the majority of its revenue comes from assets in China. Anything surveillance tech-related or data monitoring/storage systems that originate or is contracted to mainland China is problematic and disturbing...

Where in the summary does it say anything about the servers originating from China...

"The servers are to be made in Vietnam due to Apple's plan to diversify its supply chain away from China.[/u]"

... or that the servers will be run in data centers within China?

"Foxconn currently supplies servers to Amazon, OpenAI, and Nvidia for AI applications. Foxconn is already Apple's primary supplier of data center servers."

You do know that Apple has data centers located outside of China, right? How do you know the servers won't go in Apple's new Iowa data center which they started construction on last year?
