I'm guessing NY/NYC can't figure out a way to incentivize it yet.
On brand for NY. Thanks for the info by the way, I had no idea that this existed.Well they decided to do their own app which is how they are incentivizing it lol And of course it is NOT apple wallet compliant. It's also trash & not accepted as an actual ID outside of a few places, so basically useless.

Mobile ID (MiD) | NY DMV
MiD allows NYS residents to manage their identity with a secure, digital version of state-issued photo documents, in an app on a smartphone.dmv.ny.gov
Totally effed up. So Illinois. *sigh*Coming to Illinois starting 1/1/2025 BUT NOT to Apple Wallet. You will need to download a special app to download your digital license. In addition there’s a gotcha in the law that allows police to request the physical license which means you still have to carry your physical drivers license. Why even have a digital license then?
I agree with this whole heartedly, never going to use this for that reason alone. Not that I have anything to hide but if it ever comes up and they need my phone they will need to go through the proper legal steps of getting a warrant etc. This way, when you get pulled over, you’re going to hand your unlocked phone to the police when asked for your license and registration. Not sure many lawyers think that’s a great idea.
And then there’s that.I'm in Ohio and have the digital ID. I've never used it once.
Same with WA State. Come on, people!Ditto disappointment with NY! Cmon already what is the holdup?!
This. I would never ever give a cop my phone or let them scan anything from it, locked or unlocked, for any reason. This way, when you get pulled over, you’re going to hand your unlocked phone to the police when asked for your license and registration. And then there this, Ive had a physical license for decades and I've never had to used it in a stop. I've used it for clubs, bars and buying alcohol. I guessing that if you are like me your not a savage on the roads. 😂And then there’s that.
I think I’d fall into the same boat, too. I just love tech. 🥺
Great. Way to pass along misinformation. This way, when you get pulled over, you’re going to hand your unlocked phone to the police when asked for your license and registration. Not sure many lawyers think that’s a great idea.
Apples to oranges. I have no reservations at all with handing over my physical ID that has limited information vs my phone with GBs of information.Understand that the phone remains locked and encrypted, and only relevant information on the ID is shared with law enforcement digitally.
It’s ironic you’re hesitant to transmit sensitive info in a safe manner (why your phone remains locked and secured), but do you have any residency handing your ID to a cashier or bartender? When they can view your height weight home address etc? If instead you used the digital ID version, the cashier only receives relevant info (birthdate), and the rest is not shared.
Perhaps do a bit more reading on how the system works.
That’s because it is all about the politics that each state’s legislators have to deal with. The adoption is so slow and weird.
