I’ve tried to use my Illinois digital ID at O’Hare with only limited success. Multiple times the TSA agent has said something along the lines of “I’m not doing that today”.

When it is allowed, so seamless and easy.

Not sure how I feel about authorizing TSA access to any secure container on my phone, let alone the wallet. Besides, I really like my physical REAL ID photo.

We might as well remove from Kentucky from this list. They have made zero effort towards inclusion in the wallet app. They created their own app, started beta testing, then abandoned it a year ago.

While I agree, until the fed and the states officially say "can be used in lieu of a physical ID", it's somewhat vaporware, and I'm afraid it'll take more than a decade to get there
There are already states where it can be used in place of physical ID and at hundreds of TSA checkpoints.

I hope when eventually all states are on board they can get rid of the "it doesn't replace your physical card"...am waiting for the day I don't have to carry a wallet or keys!...just my phone!

My DL is really the only physical card I still think about keeping on me most of the time. These days I use Apple Pay or Wallet for almost everything else. My guess is that PA will continue to drag their feet…

This is amazing but the TSA agents need way better training.

It seems like 90%+ of them aren't aware of this feature. I've tried to do it a few times at LAX and every single time the agents give me weird looks and then blurt out something like "what did you do?" proceeded by asking for my digital ID and "Please face the camera and smile." It's crazy because it's right there in their faces and the system UI clearly says "Tap or hand your ID to the agent" with a giant Tap sign on the device, which everyone seems to be blissfuly ignorant of somehow...

Try actually using it though and let us know how that goes. Police and TSA basically laugh if you try to scan a phone rather than hand over ID or Passport/paperwork they're asking for.

I have used my Passport from my Watch at TSA in LAS, LAX, ORD, SFO. Never had a problem. My BF has used his ID (not sure if it was his Driver’s License or his Passport), in LAX and ORD, he also had no problem with either.

Where have you had that experience? TSA does not even get to the point of asking before it has already been presented to the NFC reader. Where have you been stopped by law enforcement and tried to use a digital Driver’s license?

Can they add ability to add ID / license even from any location? I understand it would only be legal for actual usage in the states mentioned, however, even in the unmentioned states, it can still be useful to have a scanned/photographed image of our ID / license even in non-official use cases, like where we might currently use a photo, the ability to access that "photo" from within wallet is just a bit faster/more convenient.

So in the near future when law enforcement accepts this as a valid ID, if pulled over, do you give them your phone or does the officer now need to carry a little scanner with them?

I am stunned to see Virginia on there, what after spending money on the absolutely terrible mobile ID version they released.

Wow. In every thread. The system does not work that way. It is just like Apple Pay, you verify and tap your card on a reader. Your phone is locked and never leaves your hand.
I definitely agree that the process is extremely safe - in general. But, the VERIFY process in the transaction is where the risk lies. This is especially true when you take into account the weight of state sponsored resources. I guess it all depends on the IMPACT portion of the individual risk equation.
