no one wants this... siri should be able to do it on her own bigtime by now... how clumsy is it to have to ask siri to ask chat gpt as it is now. we don't want more of that.
We'll have to see what sort of requests get punted and which ones are handled directly. It would be great if Siri was itself the best of the best but even if somehow it was that might not last long before someone else overtakes them.

Sounds complicated with extensions and stuff…. Guess if it can’t “just work” this is the next best thing.

This all sounds like an un-Apple.

I have a Gemini pro subscription and my family and I use it heavily along with its inherent integrations with our other Google stuff. And we use the Gemini iOS app. So, I would love for Siri to play nice with all that.
Oh yeah, that would be the dream.

But it's very un Apple to provide deep third party integration for things that they want to keep control of.

Even if they have been a very poor steward of Siri since... Well, since it launched.

Honestly, all I need Siri to do well is understand and execute basic tasks. I just want it to be better at conversing with me to do the basic things I need an assistant to do. Set appointments, look something up, etc.

I'm OK with keeping Siri smart but lean and farming out the heavier stuff to the ever-evolving models. Because they each have their limitations and none of them are there yet. I dont expect Apple to nail it on the first try.

This choice keeps making me wonder if Apple knows something that we don't, and that's why they never jumped into the AI pool. I mean honestly, it was probably a smart decision not going into AI because that whole realm is hemorrhaging billions of dollars. Apple seems smart in their choice to simply sign a contract with someone else who already did the work and is losing the money, so they don't have to. Then if the AI bubble bursts and it ceases to exist, all Apple has to do is remove the integration from their software.

it's just an awful clumsy way of doing things if ya have to direct questions elsewhere. ya don't get the chatbot experience at all. I'd hope it's made in a more seamless way than what we have now.

“…if a user has a question that ‌Siri‌ cannot handle…”

Isn’t that like most of them?

Look it up on the web might have been ok with my iPhone 4S but Siri literally isn’t much changed since then except for telling me I’m not nice when I cuss at it.

I think the choice is great. I don't use AI much myself, but my girlfriend swears by GPT so she'll be thrilled.

maybe, I'll wait and see. You may very well be able to get the full dialog once it's directed where you want. WAY too early to judge any of this.

To put things into a proper perspective, I will be turning age 81 next week. I have NEVER needed any of this stuff during my entire life (started in the computer world in the mid 1970s).

I’m always happy to swap out that ‘stuff’ for the wisdom of the old‑timers. Enjoy your birthday, buddy 🙂

Very interesting. Looks like Apple Intelligence and Siri will be in a great shape towards the end of the year.

There is nothing about. this stuff I like or trust.

So just make sure we can verifiably turn the stuff off and not see our personal data trickling off the iPhone to the likes of Google.

I am using the word "stuff" to be polite.
You should go outside and say all this into the clouds while you’re at it.

It’s actually the perfect setup: let the big players spend heavily fighting for dominance of the AI model, then adopt the eventual winner at a fraction of the cost. And all other big boys want to get their model into Apple's ecosystem, certainly Apple can negotiate for a better deal.
I seriously believe this to be true. From Apple's point of view, it makes financial sense.
There could also be the added bonus of avoiding any future conflicts/fines/proceedings with the (<insert adjective of your choice here>) EU regulators regarding the choice of default AI model.
That's actually really clever.

it's claude and me against the rotten apple and ai world. i'm def not supporting more google adtech with gemini, chatgpt ceo is a bit too untrustworthy and the company lacks ethics, perplexity does sketchy scraping and it's ceo says peeps should be good with ai job losses, grok — 🚫. claude is better for dev and coding anyways.
