Apple has posted documentation on Configuring and Running X11 Applications on Mac OS X. It has basic explanations of X11, installation instructions, configuration tips, and tells you how to compile X11 applications yourself. It also covers Fink and OpenOffice, concluding with a list of links to other helpful sites.
