Pokémon go player here. I’m on my second iPhone 7 smart battery case. I love that I can play a good hour or two of Pokémon go each day and by the end of the day I still have like 50-75% of my internal battery left. It’s awesome. I can make it easy 2 full days of normal use without Pokémon go.

I hope if they are making a new one it will be made of better materials though as my first one started ripping off the sides pretty bad and that’s why I got a new one. I’d guess they’ll bring it for the smaller XS only and not the max as that one has a bigger battery. They never brought it to the plus so I doubt they will bring it to the max.

iPhone 6: 6.9 mm MAKE them 7.0 mm instead with a larger battery
iPhone 7: 7.1 mm MAKE them 7.2 mm instead with a larger battery
iPhone 8: 7.3 mm MAKE them 7.4 mm instead with a larger battery
iPhone X: 7.7 mm MAKE them 7.8 mm instead with a larger battery
iPhone Xr: 8.3 mm MAKE them 8.4 mm instead with a larger battery
A tenth of a millimeter wouldn’t make any appreciable difference. Maybe a whole millimeter thicker would make a difference. Heck, look how small a millimeter is - add two - most people wouldn’t notice and you could have a lot more battery life.

The problem is that every year the power required by the phone has increased, so any marginal increase in battery power is lost.

Would wireless charging still work though?

If they put a charging coil on the back of the pack.

Yes hence the lack of chin.

No, the chin accommodated the Lightning connectors. My guess is this will use wireless charging to power the phone.

I doubt it. The battery would be right where the charging coil is located.

Problem ...

There could be a charging coil on the outside of the battery pack...

... Solved

It’s redundant, but very Apple-like solution. Then the Lightning port is even less important.

The real question is if it would this new case have a Lightning port at all considering that design. Maybe in a different location?

Of course, but they could have made the phone just a little thicker and satisfied everyone and also not have the butt ugly battery bump.
A bit thicker wouldn't have satisfied everyone by far. Given that some would say it still wouldn't be enough--as is the case now even despite the phones getting a bit thicker--and others would complain about how thick the phones are (yes, there are threads about that too), and on and on and on.

I got a little excited seeing the bottom chin is now gone - this is what we needed. I'm sure the case would also keep it's thinnest and either still have a block of battery in the middle or they will come up with something fresher.

I just wish Apple would make these damn iPhones a tenth of a millimeter thicker so that they can have a longer lasting battery in them to begin with...

they'd rather make more money by selling you a thicker case... my Xr is 0.6mm thicker than the xs, I'll take it for the battery life.

This would be genius. My 6 had this case and I could go hard for a long day or squeeze two days out of normal to light use. Takes away the "range anxiety" so to speak... I would buy it for sure.

I would get one. Had one for my iPhone 7 and came in handy. Easy to slip on and off when needed and fit the phone perfectly. Plus charges with Lightening cable. Much better than the Mophie I had.

Without more information, I'll continue to use my portable battery pack. However, I would rather have a thicker phone with a bigger battery.

I have on on my 6s and think they’re great. The grip of them and being able to rest your finger under the hump really help hold your phone. And it looks a hell of a lot better than those horrible button things everyone is getting.

The biggest downside to this case is the weight and despite the grip apples silicone just brakes away after a bit of use (apple replaced my first case). I wish they made it in a leather option.

I hated the case material. But to Apple's credit they replaced it for free just for wear on the corners. I really had not had it all that long for it to start to look shabby. I also didn't like the hump design. I hope they do better this time around.

I've got a XS Max and i still generally can't get through the day. Facebook continues to be the biggest battery hot over the past 10 days. taking 20%, pokemon go at 17%
