Apple is preparing to release iOS 18.7 for compatible iPhone models, according to evidence of the update in the MacRumors visitor logs.

We expect iOS 18.7 to be released in September, alongside iOS 26. The update will likely include fixes for security vulnerabilities, but little else.

iOS 18.7 will be one of the final updates ever released for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, as those devices are not compatible with iOS 26.

iOS 26 is compatible with the iPhone 11 and newer.

Following months of beta testing, iOS 26 is finally nearing a release, with the update likely to be made available to the general public around the middle of September.

The most likely date seeing as Apple loves releases on Mondays seems to be September 15, 2025. After all, the upcoming Apple event is the week before starting Tuesday the 9th at 10 am PDT, so why not the following Monday, the 15th?

and maybe slows things down on the old hardware :p

I don’t usually hop on the bandwagon (and my iPhone 12 Pro will get iOS 26) but dang, 18.6.X releases have been noticeable battery drains on my phone.

I thought about those folks left to suffer on what’s otherwise been an alright year of updates. RIP.

Ah nice, the final .X update. This the one that lowers battery life and slows older models, so you buy the new model😎 keeeen

Joe, you have a strange definition of "one of the final".

iOS 16 released 10 updates after iOS 17 was introduced. The latest was just 6 months ago.
iOS 15 released 15 updates after iOS 16 was introduced. Again the latest was just 6 months ago.
iOS 12 released 16 updates after iOS 13 was introduced.

Based on these numbers, there is a very good chance, that the XS, XS Max and XR will get at least 8 more updates for iOS 18. For at least another year.

I can’t wait to see my battery health drop 10% with this update just as the new iPhones are about to be released lol

Apple deserve a lot of their criticism, but on this count, they are leading the way. When you buy an iPhone, you are guaranteed 7 years of updates and that is impressive. google and Samsung are now offering it, but they wouldn't have without Apple
The EU now requires five years of OS updates from when the last unit of a given model was manufactured, so they don't really have that much leeway anymore anyway.

It’s nice to know Apple employees are so compelled to visit MacRumours that they even do so on their testing hardware.
