i don't understand the point of engraving. most of us have a case that covers it up anyway. but i guess if it's free, it adds a little personality to your device.

Isn't engraving just Apple's way of ensuring that they don't have to replace your iProduct if it's broken?

No. Where do people get this information? They will let you choose if you want to replace the engraving (adding to the service time) or not, assuming it was engraved by Apple and not a third party (which still doesn't affect your warranty).

It is true, however, that you cannot (because you changed your mind) return or exchange an engraved iPod.

I like having my iPods engraved. It adds personalization to your iPod. Me and my sisters and brother all chipped in and bought my mom an iPod classic and she loved it. We put "We love you, Mom" on the back. My mom shows it to everyone. It'll be cool if you can do this with the iPad.

Hmm. I wonder what this does to Battery Replacement policy. I mean, you get a different referb'd iPad when they "Replace" your battery. Does the engraving "go away"?

Anyone know what do they do now with engraved iPod touches that get battery replacements?

Why yes, somebody does know, and he's said it twice before in this thread. :D With any warranty service, you'll get the option of re-doing your engraving or not. Getting it engraved will add to the service time, just as it does when ordered new.

I honestly dont care. I wont be engraving any electronic anytime soon. It lowers value and theres not much point in it.

Hey guys, take the geek glasses off for a minute. Most people don't buy and resell electronics as new models come out. Most people buy things, use them a long time and then relegate it to a drawer and a garage sale years later. Most people will eat up the engraving.
