Hehe...pages and pages of Maclovers speculation about just a rumor...love this forum! :D

I would like a mac netbook of course, but Jobs went to the iPad way and its selling really great to make another device that could compete against its new baby...

No guys, dont think its going to happen.

What apple should do is a new and real MBP with all the engineering apple is capable to make, update MacPros and all the pro software line (no more iLife please!).

We mac users are creative people who use mac computers to make things from music to photo to video... I want a real Macintosh comeback!

Just dreaming...the gold mine is the iStuff now... a shame.

I don't believe that a 11.6" MBA means the 13.3" MBA is going away.

Apple has a fixed number of slots in the product line up. There is already 4 laptop models in the Mac space why would Apple go to 5 ? Apple doesn't do more products than they actually implement. There are a dozen PC products that they don't do. Neither are they going to create a MBA product line up that almost completely overlaps with the MBP price points.

If the MBP 13" takes on more characteristics of the MBA ( dump optical because it is "old tech") then MBA is going to to have to move away somehow.

Likewise if Apple want to remotely compete with the Sony Via X class laptop/netbook/whatever you want to call it where the weight is in same range as the iPad ( 1.4-1.8 lbs) and still stick with Aluminum then they are going to have to get smaller to shed weight. The more volume enclosed by Al the heavier it is going to be. Likewise bezel, glossy glass , etc. , they all drop in weight when shrink the dimensions.

It can't just be "thin". It will have to shrink in 3 dimensions. If stick to just one dimension .... that doesn't match where the "ultra mobile" market is or has been going for at least a year or two now.

Why no iLife.. Its great and comes free with all new computers. Apple's pro software (Final Cut and Logic Studio) are perfect for Pro's and iLife is perfect for everyone else.

This is really not going to be a netbook, but another new class of product again. I predict that we'll see something like this.. I don't think it really needs any ports on it at all which will allow Steve to make it another delicious 2 mm thinner. Thant will make it just magical!!!

11.6" Display at 800x600
Atom CD4100 Processor
1GB RAM
16 GB SSD
$2499

or

11.6" Display at 800x600
Atom CD4100 Processor
2GB RAM
32 GB SSD
$3299

that thing is mad sexy and if they price it around 800 like has been mentioned any one that wants a netbook and has taste will buy it. i know i would.

11.6-inches strikes me as a bit…*small. I think 13.3-inches is perfect.

Do you know there already exist 2 Apple laptops at that size?

I would absolutely love to see Air go smaller - there is so little difference between the Air and the MBP 13". Take the optical drive out of the MBP and you've got a faster Air. Make the Air smaller and you've got another model that is actually different from the other models.

Does anyone else feel this tension...

Hand up here.

I sold my MacBook and actually wanted an 11" MacBook before the Air was launched, and have always liked that sized form factor (love my friend's tiny Sony Vaio). Then the iPad came along and, wow, I want one of those.

Having neither an iPad nor an Air (yet), I think I would choose an iPad first, and then I'd buy an 11" Air. Failing that I'd buy a 13" MBP (which is only slightly heavier and bigger than the Air).

The 12" Powerbook 'worked' partially because it had decent specs, I/O, and a non-widescreen display. How are they going to do that with the Macbook air?

And, are they really going to put iOS on it? Didn't Apple say they weren't going to use touch screens when a keyboard and trackpad was attached? Or did some Apple site say that?

I don't mean to be pedantic, but for the MBA to be 50% lighter than the 13" MBP, it would have to weigh 2.25 lbs:

4.5lbs x .50 = 2.25lbs. As it stands, the 3lb MBA is 2/3 the weight of the 13" MBP, or 33% lighter.

The 13" MBP is, however, 50% heavier than the MBA:

3lbs x .50 = 1.5lbs. 3 lbs + 1.5lbs = 4.5lbs (13 MBP weight) ;)

And 3 half-sliced strands of hair are actually only 50% heavier than one full strand of hair. :p

Do you suppose Apple would make the new Air with 3G? Perhaps not since that could be an iPad killer. But wouldn't that be nice?

MAN! I wait two years to buy one, and now they shrink the screen!?>

I hope this is just the base model

11.6" = EPIC fail

I work on 15" laptops which are fine, I tollerate 13" laptops, but 11.6" PUlease

I want a real (light) 13" one please (or 15)...

Apple - Listen to your market; do you ever hear anyone saying they love their laptop, but wished the screen was smaller.....

MAN

<Rant = Off >

I've heard the current macbook air runs very hot, so I hope an updated version would eliminate that problem and run cool, like the iPad.
I've heard that the Earth is flat. I hope that's not true but if it is, I hope the edges aren't located close to my house. I'm scared of heights.

Ever consider the iPad runs cool because it has an A4 processor in there and runs iOS? As opposed to the OS X-chewing 2 GHz C2D CPU lurking under the hood of the MBA. Sorry to have picked on your post specifically, but it's unbelievable the amount of misinformed crap being posted about the MBA on this thread e.g. "it doesn't do much", "netbook" etc.

I could see them keeping the same specs and size then knocking the price down $500 replacing the MB and sliding in a 11.6" and having that cost as much as the current ones with updated specs.

So surprised at all the bashing of the smaller screen size! I saw a Vaio Z yesterday, running 1600x900 on the 13" screen, and it still looked really nice for reading stuff. With 11.6" they could surely do 1366x768 and we would in fact gain in total pixels over the current MBA. If they went (closer to) retina, there would really be no stopping them :). And no stopping them upping the price points....

Anyway, I vote for glass trackpad, glass cover glossy screen, non-backlit keyboard, 4GB (or more GBs) RAM. Make it happen, Steve.

Sounds like the wait for my next Air will be worth it! I expect the MacBook Air will always* be my most-used system—albeit sometimes with a bigger screen attached.

* Until the eventual iPad/Mac merger of some sort....

Could it not be a Air with a Touch Screen?

I would think the next move would be to replace multi-touch pad.

Eventually the two input methods will be touch-screen and voice recognition.

Now here's the next possibility. What does Apple do about C2D and Core i-series CPUs? What does Apple do about the GPU problem? Does Apple go IPS for the displays? Does Apple really get rid of the 13.3" MBA just to go with an 11.6" MBA? I have a lot of questions... and this raises a heck of a lot more positive ideas in my head for the MBA.

I also think you might be assuming too much hoping to get an included SSD, while all of us MBA owners know the SSD is the only real option apple is usually more concerned with their profit margins. Rather than giving SSDs away at a reasonable price.

They absolutely have to put 4gb of ram in an upgrade 13.3" however I think the 11.6" would get 2gb to keep costs down.

If they are really good they will develop a new mix of iOS that is made for mouse and physical keyboard input and use it in a new line of 30 hours lasting ARM based notebooks as an alternative (not replacement) for those Intel heaters.

OK, here's an out-there suggestion. Maybe it's not a new MacBook Air ... maybe it's a larger format, but thinner and lighter iPad? An iPad Pro?

Like I said, out-there, but just because you've got components for an 11.6" screen doesn't mean it's automatically going to be an Air.

iPad Pro?... what a pathetic concept. Apple doesn't deserve to use the word Pro.

Build real computer, not another ipod.

I hope this rumor comes true. I'd love to have an Apple netbook instead of my Dell Mini 9.

I have a Dell Mini 10v and the screen is fine, another inch would be great (I wouldn't pay $1000 for it though). The only real problem I have with it is the touchpad which a usb mouse fixes nicely. I paid $250 for it. How much are these new Apple netbooks going to cost? If it's over 800, sorry, so sorry Apple.

Is someone leaking information of great, grand, glorious new Apple products to cover up the elephant in the room (iOS4-iPhone)? 11.3" AirBook would be sweet though as long as it's not $1499. But it will be, sigh. Gotta keep Steve's cats fed somehow.
