They'd better have a very long lasting battery...otherwise (at least for me) I see no point to get a netbook...but this is something I have been looking at for a few months and a good MBP 11'6 would be nice to have...depending on the price...if they sell it the price of a MBP there will be no point.

get rid of that 1 inch becel around the screen, make it matte screen 1280x720, add FW, mini display port, two usb and a SD card reader, 8+ hr battery life, G3, and sell it for $1399 with full OS X base price (although it would need a SSD most likely).

nice news for the MBA fans here and elsewhere

Hope this is true. The MBA users have been waiting almost as long as the MP folks.

For the near future anyway, I'll stick with a desktop and my iPhone. It's nice to know the Air is still out there and will get a complete overhaul.

If these specs are true, I may wait to give my sister my refurbished iMac: if the MBA gets an iCore processor, perhaps the rest of Apple's machines will as well.

Now let's have more nibbles on the Mac Pros please.

The air needs an SD card slot like the mac mini with up to 2TB capacity (standard for future cards).

I really hope this doesn't spell the end for the 13" MacBook Air line. I could deal with it if they ditched the CD drive out of the MacBook Pro 13" and made it lighter, but honestly, the current high end Air is the best computer I have ever owned, and I just don't think I can sacrifice screen space for the new Air. Hrmmm.

I've been holding off upgrading my notebook and hoping for and update to the 13" Air line. With an 11" screen and an underpowered processor this just won't cut it for my uses. Looks like they'll be encroaching into the iPad's territory.

another glorified 'magical and revolutionary' gadget. want to bet it's overpriced? guess the MBA is too heavy now.

The 12" PowerBook was the best Apple laptop I ever owned. It was tiny and gorgeous.

If the Air comes in at 11.6", I'd be all over that.

I would too, but I really think the 13" MBP takes the 12" PB's original spot. The 12" if one would recall was a full featured laptop with dedicated GFX, optical drive, user replaceable RAM, etc. The 13" MBP really does fit that bill, and comes in a tad bit heavier.

The 13" Air used to be somewhat of a ???? for lots of people, but us Apple fans tend to find a use for the products Apple makes, and the Air became a hit for a lot of users . . . . myself as well.

I don't know if an 11.6" Air like laptop really has a place in the lineup, only because the iPad does a good job of doing all that a machine that small would be capable of doing.

There may be some tasks some people may want to do on that type of screen, and a notebook that size would be wonderful for those road warriors, but can't see how the iPad (even for all the grief I give it) doesn't fit that bill.

p.s. I know the iPad has no keyboard, so that's one way.

I'll post it here again:

What I expect:

- 2 GB RAM
- Glossy screen
- Even less ports (is that even possible?)
- battery life around 3-5 hrs
- price := +1000€

So the only change you expect is less ports????

The plot thickens...I really hope we get some innovation along with the smaller form factor.

Apple really is trying to get into every niche'... I'd be interested to see where this "rumored 11.6" safe to call it a netbook" will fit in.. especially pricing wise..

The base model iPad is starting at $500 all the way up to $800... so this netbook will probably come in at around $1000.. BUT, you can get a 13" inch Macbook Pro for $1200.. hmmmmm...

You guys do realize that 11.6" means it'll be smaller than the 13.3" model. Knowing how Apple historically chooses to advertise new products as being thinner and lighter than their predecessors, expect compromises on nearly ALL fronts.

Two years ago I would have ordered a 11.6" Air without hesitation.
But now in the iPad era netbooks no longer look like such a great idea...

Snorz.................

They still make this overpriced/underpowered device? I'll keep my MBP for work and my iPad for play.

I will have to agree, any screen smaller than 12" should just ditch the keyboard.

The only machine I have ever used smaller than 12" but still very useful and capable was the Sony TZ or TT model. It was 11.1" with a wonderful keyboard, two USB ports, wifi, 3G, eSATA (I think) and it was still under 3 lbs. The only downside was the price which started at around $1800, the processor speed, and at the time Windows.
