This is honestly as big as the WWDC announcements the last couple years. I can't imagine how this improves the lives of people with disabilities, but I'm always surprised how cool the features are for everyone honestly.

I mean it's just the model being provided. It doesn't mean Google gets data from the interactions. Are you also unhappy that Google is the default search engine on Safari? The Apple Intelligence AI model is rumored to be swappable for other models, with even a mini App Store for AI models to plug into, just like the default search engine.

Yup just don’t want Apple doing any sort of deals with them, doesn’t it seem reasonable (for US economy ) if they stop relying on whoever else for parts and screens and just move all manufacturing to here and do EVERYTHING in house, so no more goog no more samsung etc??

So, they’ll make 4 million dollars a second instead of 20 million if they do everything themselves, oh boo hoo…

I mean I get it they want a modern capable version of Siri and only way to do that quickly enough is to rely on others , and I know it’s not really “readable” info for other outside companies to track and even if they go back on their word and host info on goog servers all the data is still secure (supposedly) but it just doesn’t sit right and so I’m not turning back on Siri /apple intel. Until I hear goog is wayyy out of the picture and Apple can continue on its own running Siri/AI….even then I’m waiting prob a year out if I ever even turn it back on at all smh

When AI first came out to iPhone 15pro/16 users it was fun but since then it’s not been something that must be used daily or anything like that.

Just incredible. The power of Accessibility by Apple

Yep Apple accessibility is amazing, I’ve used maybe 10% of the features and tried only maybe 20%, such a wealth of options, and yet, overall, iOS is so smooth and bug free…Apple iOS engineers get so little respect around here smh

Apple likes to place a big emphasis on their accessibility features. So can someone explain why their local voice dictation is still so bad? I would think that excellent voice dictation would be table stakes for accessibility at this point.

But when compared to alternatives, many of which are open-source and local, Apple’s own voice dictation is so far behind. I still have to say things like “period” and “comma” when dictating, and the words are often wrong. The alternatives are nearly flawless by comparison.

It seems like such an easy thing to improve, and it would be a massive quality of life improvement for millions of users who don’t download 3rd party alternatives. I must be missing something…
Everything is bad under the covers.

Search still can't file my files on my Mac. How is AI ever going to work?

Spelling correction only works when you get 95% or so of the letters correct.

Xcode stops providing QuickHelp every single day until I erase caches, delete intermediate products and reboot.

Xcode suggestions look like my cat wanted across the keyboard, they are so bad.

iOS has so many undocumented APIs that there is no way AI is going to fix that.

Basically anything that is not mentioned in a Keynote fails to work for common scenarios.

I've had Macs and iPhones since they were introduced and I've never seen it this bad.

Under the covers iOS, macOS, iPhoneOS are all a dumpster fire waiting to be ignited. I can only assume visionOS is the same way.

Well, no, because Apple is not a supplier.
It would make sense if they may be wanted to become a supplier for other companies, but then they wouldn’t be Apple.
I don’t think people want Apple to give up their main business so they can go mass produce OLEDs and silicon wafers instead of Samsung and TSMC.
As the company who mostly sells hardware and services? No it doesn’t make sense at all.

Thanks for explaining that, makes perfect sense how you broke it down!!!

Hmmm now that I think abt it, you say “then they wouldn’t be apple” I get it and sounds like an industry standard abt suppliers and consumer goods manufacturing…but…what if Apple was the first to be both supplier (to themselves and maybe other industry companies) and designer and manufacturer, distributor etc etc…

Forget making cents/sense short term and what if it’s better long term (decades etc) and like I said maybe even just good for thr U.S. econonmy as a whole and not just apple the company…just a thought.

I’m constantly moved by the level of effort that Apple invests into Accessibility in their platform and products.

As a man with significant physical disabilities who grew up with family with significant physical disabilities, I am very grateful.

The sheer amount of time, money and energy spent on this inside of Apple is astounding. And it’s just “included” in the product.

Not only is it included but incredibly well thought out!

Turn on a new MacBook but don’t start setting it up and it automatically turns on accessibility features…JUST IN CASE.

Deafness? Blindness? Limited mobility? Color blindness? Motion sickness? Wheelchair bound? I have yet to come across a disability that Apple isn’t working on helping to make your life easier to interact with the world around you using their products.

And other than selling a product they get nothing out of it. They do it because THEY CAN.

Their research and development costs alone must be in the billions by now. It certainly is for their iOS keyboard including use cases for accessibility.

Hearing aids for AirPods was one that…I was brought to tears. Sound detection. Live captions. Object identification.

Keep it up Apple. Please…the world is better because of you.

For all my frustrations with Apple, I do appreciate their investments in accessibility. I don't benefit from it directly but it is something I'm glad they continue to do. I believe they've been a leader in this (at least among mainstream devices).
I do too. But I wished they would have added “downgrade to iOS 18” as an Accessibility feature.

I wonder how many people there are that have power wheelchairs, can't use the stick, are in the US, have Tolt and LUCI alternative drive systems, and an AVP. Like, couldn't that be zero?
Let’s pretend it’s just one person. Which is better, using technology to help that person or keep using it for deepfakes, scam calls, and fake news? Because that’s what Grok for example is being used for now.

I really want Apple put live captions on Apple TV. iPhone, iPad and Mac have it but not Apple TV. There are SOOO many channels got no subtitles especially sport channels, I want get involved with build up, interviews, etc but I miss out all of those and only able watch match part only.

Well, Pages, etc. used to be free. Now to use all the features->not free anymore.
Pages wasn’t always free.
It used to cost over $100 a year to keep up with iWork.
Also, I am a page‘s user. Absolutely nothing that was free before isn’t free now. Every feature that was completely free in pages 14 is still free in Pages 15.

This is great. What would also be great is to finally address issues with the Apple displays and OS’s: pulse-width modulation flickering to regulate brightness and temporal dithering flickering to render vivid colors and smooth gradients. It would be helpful to have a way to disable these. None of these features help those of us with visual disabilities when the screens themselves are inaccessible to us.
