Do you guys like the fact iPhones don’t go on sale? You will pay the same price at launch as you will pay 10 months into the phones life cycle. An 11 pro max costs the same today as it did at launch, even though it’s going to be replaced in a few months with something newer and most likely better. If you knew you could save $100-$300 off the cost of a flagship iPhone if you waited a few months (like nearly all Android phones), would you still buy at launch or would you wait for the first nice sale?

There seem to be more carrier deals that years ago. Problem is they always involve at least one new line. Now Android you can pretty much camp BestBuy.com and some $100s of dollars off deal will pop up without even needing a second purchase or any new lines.

Depends on what the features are. I would only jump on it for 5G once 5G ever shows up here. Or some absolutely surprisingly great new thing.

I’ve actually never owned a launch phone.. I usually grab last years flagship at a discount. This year I was extra cheap and bought a certified preowned for myself. It’s a beautiful phone that just came with a charge block and cable, and a battery at 100%. I did enjoy the cost savings. But missed the white box with all the stuff. I bought her an SE last week and it was a little more satisfying even though it wasn’t for me and I didn’t open it. I plan on sticking with S phones as that’s all I’ve had, except the 7.

Depends on how badly I need a new phone and if I consider certain features are a must-have. If I can afford to wait for a sale, that usually means I can also afford to wait for the release of the next model.

When I do upgrade, I tend to opt for the iPhone Upgrade Program so I can easily upgrade after a year if I wanted to. I've never actually made use of it but it's there as a hassle free option in case I ever do.

This is why resale value is so good on iPhones. The fact you can still get £600-£700 for an 11 pro now gives people good peace of mind when they do decide to sell.
But it makes buying a new iPhone feel like a bad deal once it’s been out for a few months.

I usually stick with a phone for a few years, then buy whatever the previous flagship was whenever I need a new one. Like this past December I upgraded from my SE to an Xs. If there’s a solid cheap new option, I enjoy that as well. For example, I just replaced that SE that was bumped down to my second work line with the new SE.

I clicked the wait a few months option because you didn't have an option for what I and many other people actually do, which is to wait a few *years* after a phone comes out to get it at a palatable price. I could afford a 1000 dollar phone if I wanted, but it's been a long long time since a new phone came out with features compelling enough to make me want it more than what I've already got.

I think you left off the, “Apple take all my money all the time,” option. :)

I’ve bought most of my phones at launch, and pretty much at every launch. Now I haven’t bought pros these last few years - I bought the 8+ when that and the X came out, and then the XR (though I did buy/return the XS Max), and 11.

However, I just got an 11 pro this morning. I switched from my 11 to the SE2 (wanted to go smaller), which I absolutely love, but I’m having a lot of trouble typing on the smaller keyboard. I don’t really want to go back to a 6.1 or bigger, and it’s looking like a new 5.4 won’t be an option because I’m thinking it’ll also be a bit small, so I figured I’d try the 11 pro. Obviously if I keep it (if I can handle the OLED), I will likely skip the release in the fall, unless there’s just something I can’t resist. ;-p

Swipe on the keyboard instead of tapping. It's much better inputting that way regardless of screen size.

I’ve been trying it. It definitely takes getting used to.

I guess it's different for everyone. For me the first few minutes were a bit of an adjustment, but by like 5 minutes in I was like "why did we ever enter text any other way?!"

I hate swipe to type. Just couldn't get used to it. Also smears more finger grease on the screen than usual.

I didn’t vote in your poll. However, iPhones do have ‘sale prices’ (They’re just marketed differently), but the way carriers designed upgrade programs, I don’t think it really matters anymore. And we’re starting to see a shrinkage of use iPhones being sold locally, because more and more consumers are trading in their devices, Which carriers and Apple are making it an easy transition to acquire the latest device, and eliminate having to deal with ‘sketchy buyers‘ who are trying to fraud an honest seller.

I just can’t seem to wrap my brain around it. It takes me a lot longer and I hate swiping then stopping after each word to correct it or hit the space bar.

You don't have to hit the space bar, just lift your finger at the end of a word and then start swiping in a new word. It'll automatically put in a space in between.

I bought a Iphone 11 Pro Max 256gb 2 months ago for 600 dollars flat on offerup told the dude to meet up at Sprint that was still open to check. He and I both agree we like androids; but I needed to get the phone for my dad and well sadly he didn't like iphone and as he said spent too much for iphone 11 pro max and a Galaxy S20.

I either buy when new models come out or I don't buy and wait a year until next model comes out ...

I like that resale value is pretty decent but feel the new prices for Apples Pro range are way over priced for what they are to begin with. I do think the mid tier devices are good enough though so that softens the blow.

Care to explain?

AT&T ran a promotion. Buy an iPhone 11 Pro, get an iPhone 11 for free and $100 Visa gift card. It required having an unlimited data plan and the 11 had to be a new line, not an upgrade. I was already on a qualifying data plan and I wanted to add a new line. So it worked out well for me.

I do wish apple themselves would drop the price around now before the new release of the iPhone. Just because I'm certain the 11pro will get dropped from sale entirely especially a new one..

Oh gosh - another thing to add to my angst of whether to keep this 11 pro I just ordered, or stick with my SE2 til the 12s come out.

Bragging rights on MR or waiting a few months to save a few hundred dollars. Tough call. I usually get the phone I want right away.

At the moment I am happy with my SE. My mini 5 gets almost all of the use. It will take a little effort to get me to upgrade to the 5.4.” I am leaning towards keeping my SE and upgrading my S5 watch.
