Ever since Tim Cook became CEO of Apple, all products/upgrades have been released between Q2 and Q4. Why is this?

I remember Steve Jobs said something to the effect that releasing products throughout the year was a good way to hold the interests of people, and it made sure that they were always talking about the brand.

People might not like Samsung, but it's noteworthy that their near-weekly product releases keep them in the media quite often.

Apple is not interested in that many products to provide monthly or weekly releases of products and product updates, they fare quite well with their current schedules of product releases, at least if one looks at their quarterly results.

Apple wants to provide experiences, and too many product releases would seriously distract from that. One iPhone update per year does suffice. One iPad update per year does suffice, and as for their Macs, they are a bit bound by Intel and their release schedule.

And if you haven't noticed, Apple gets a lot of press, even bad one.

What I was talking about is how Apple used to have iPad in spring, iPhone is summer, and various other products spread throughout. Instead, we now have a lump-sum release of every single product in September through December.

I think it's a balancing act. If you have too few announcements/releases people start forgetting about you. If you have too many announcements/release people start ignoring you.

How does it balance things out to have everything release in Q3 or Q4?
