Apple this week shared a short film on its YouTube channel in France called "Le Peintre," which translates to "The Painter." Shot on the iPhone by Paris-bared director J.B. Braud, the video depicts a house painter who rings the doorbell of a large house and gradually realizes that he is the victim of a misunderstanding, according to Apple.

Apple has highlighted the video on a new page on its French website that promotes iPhone 12 models as being able to shoot cinema-quality video.

From February 15 to February 28, Apple will be hosting virtual Today at Apple sessions with French filmmaking professionals, including Braud. Anyone can register for these free sessions, hosted over Webex, but they will likely be in French only.

Apple is also promoting the video on Twitter with a #LePeintre hashtag, complete with a custom paintbrush hashflag icon, as spotted by MacRumors reader Aaron.

"Réalisé avec l'iPhone" yeah and it shows. Is this why it looks blurry and the colors are so bland?

Lol. Why did he park on the lawn? That was pretty amusing and not seeing the painting was a great way to end a quirky story of misunderstanding and adaptation. Just use your imagination, he had a roller and maybe a few hand brushes for cutting in and trim. I think the “banana duct taped to a wall” is about the level of art we could expect it to represent, and yet for some that is enough.

I like that this is almost entirely understandable (other than whatever the post-"Cut!" comment was) even if you don't speak any French. Sign of good visual storytelling.

Unbelievable that Apple would put its name behind an ad that clearly infers that it is okay to regard / depict a woman as a dog / bitch. That really is terrible.
Did you miss that dog standing right next to her at the end? I thought it was completely obvious that she was also having formal portraits of her dog done in addition to herself.

You have to love the French with their wacky adverts. I’m surprised nobody was naked.
