Hardly surprising aluminum is disappointing. It's is for the 'cheap' phone, right?

If only Apple hadn't spent years pushing steel and titanium as 'better' when in reality they're just different.
Actually no. Stainless Steel and Titanium is much more expensive compared to Aluminum in case of material price. Plus Aluminum is soo soft, it could be easily dented when dropped.

Yes, to the consumer they are much more expensive under Apple's pricing model for finished iPhones. But that wasn't my point.

My point was that Apple's price points have never reflected the actual production costs. For many high-end consumer goods, produced by various manufacturers, they never have. The raw materials are different in cost, I'll give you that and titanium is probably the most expensive.

But my jaw really would be on the floor if Apple's chunky price differential between the finished aluminum product and its steel or titanium counterpart was all down to raw material costs. We're not talking about 24ct gold or platinum items here. Just aluminum (soda cans), Stainless steel (pots and pans) and titanium (replacement hip joints). They're all commonplace materials.
