Well thanks Apple for assuming :p

I would think since it’s their service & everything “just works” they would. The same way it backups everything else.
It will work. They're providing unlimited icloud back up for everything on your phone including photos/videos/music... everything. It is a one-time deal and will be deleted 21 days upon use.

This stuff never worked for me, I think because I still am forced to have two apple IDs (one for iCloud and one for purchasing the phone) as an old MobileMe customer...
This never existed before this year. It is new with ios15.

I have 2 TB of storage and iCloud sync on. Got this little walkthrough yesterday and it just immediately said I already had everything I needed set up. It then mentioned what to do with the old and new phones to actually accomplish the transfer/sync.

I've preordered the 13 Pro Max but don't see the prompt on my iPhone X. However if you're running iOS 15 you can easily bring up the wizard by going to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Get Started.

For some reason I'm not seeing this in my Settings app. Maybe it's only available in a few countries?
I live in China and I haven't seen anything. Perhaps it will appear when the phone is ready to ship? I'm waiting until mid-October for my device.

I have the option but I’m just going to get the phones to do it, plenty quick and I don’t have to deal with what I want/don’t want in the cloud later.
the phone to phone process is plenty quick and quite efficient as it is.

I think it's super cool that they loan you storage to backup and transfer over. They literally don't need to and could have just made you pay for it.

I backed up my iPhone for the first time to iCloud and it took 5 hours for 32 GB of data with a 5/50 internet connection.
I then backed it up to my Mac and it took less than 3 minutes.

Funny, it's just the opposite for me. iCloud backups take minutes while backing up to my Mac, especially since moving to Big Sur, takes several HOURS.
This, on a iPhone 11 Max Plus with over 120 gb of data on it

I guess if you have enough free space and already back up everything in iCloud, this prompt may not necessary and won't show.
That must be it I have 200gb of iCloud storage maybe that’s why I don’t see it

MobileMe? Now that's a throwback...

Yeah, I haven't seen this prompt either, but I already have both my phone and my iPad backed up in iCloud, so maybe they figure I don't need to know or set up this stuff.

THANK YOU! This was exactly what I needed to put my mind at ease. And it confirmed that my current settings mean I'm ready to go once I have the new phone in hand.
