I guess I'm in a minority. I have two iPod minis, and since the big architecture update a year or so ago (?), they've worked great, as hubs and controllers, even including my Belkin soundform for my analog receiver. Siri is still stupid, but the devices are great for me.

if it were the old Apple before they switched away from Mac being the digital hub, this would've been easy to fix by restoring the firmware via iTunes
You can still restore the firmware in iTunes. I did this the last time an update bricked one of my homepods

Thank you! That's a pleasant surprise for me
Likewise, considering how neglected the local device management features have become. That’s an important part of the Apple ecosystem for me, but it’s quickly falling by the wayside as they continue to push these cloud services on people that are not universally wanted.

You can’t even restore firmware for iPhones anymore now after ios 18 (if you had not heard, both iTunes and the new Apple Devices application are both nonfunctional and error out before completing an update or full restore - multiple complaints about this in other threads)

First I’ve heard of this issue with the firmware updates, can you point to one of the threads
