The upgrade button is still enabled on the beta, if you feel brave enough to try it and report bugs. Probably don't use your main Apple ID though.

Never? I don't believe that. That said, there might be a distinction between "point" releases and minor releases.

Version: 16.2.3
  • 16 — (major) Manual installation mandatory
  • .2 — (minor) Manual installation mandatory
  • .3 — (point) Auto-Installation, usually around 2am-3am in the morning.

Auto update on the HomePod has never once worked for me on the beta or full public releases.

If you upgrade to the new Home Architecture you also can’t disable Apple TV from being a HomeKit hub as the option to do so disappears.

I was looking for it today and it was gone.

You can still disable AppleTV from being a hub.

They've just changed the setting name. Can't remember where it is off the top of my head but where you choose which room it is sitting in you scroll all the way to the bottom and disable it there.

Anyone using the new architecture with Homebridge? And by any chance with the older version 1.5.1 (the newer doesn't work on Synology)?
I am hosting my Homebridge on my Synology (it is running 7.1 update 3) my Homebridge is running v1.6.0 which it says is the latest. No issues.

Before you go through the trouble of doing this, try running your hubs (i.e. Apple TVs and HomePods) through a power cycle. That worked for me to get my spouse back on the Home.
Thanks for the advice, that actually worked! I still had one Apple TV that I thought was updated and it wasn’t, after rebooting all the systems, I was finally able to get things to work!

Is there any way of knowing which architecture I am on, I updated my Homepods and ATV when 16.2 was released, I saw the home upgrade notification on my iphone but don't think I selected it, however after my gear was upgraded the option never came back. Everything is working as expected so not sure if I've been lucky and it's upgraded or it's still on the original architecture.

I think that was referring to making a backup if you were using the third-party 'Controller' app as your HomeKit interface rather than Apple's Home app.
Both could be used at the same time. In this case, the Controller app is purposely to make a backup. Once you delete the home through HomeKit and recreate it, just restore from the Controller app, to have all the setup as before without needing to start from scratch.

Interesting. I wasn’t aware HKSV recording ever worked. I’ve been trying to use it since it came out and I have no devices last longer than 3-4 days before the recordings drop. Still shows they have streaming & recording active, but none of the devices record anymore unless I remove all hubs and cameras and re-add them manually.

At this point I’ve given up on HomeKit to do anything more than open and close my garage when I get close.

Hm, I updated to the new architecture a day after 16.2 was released and don't have any issues. Devices update much faster now (the difference is particularly drastic if you access the home remotely via cellular). I use 3 Apple TVs as hubs, a Hue system, a couple of Logitech HKSV cameras, and a few Eve BT accessories. I haven't tried inviting anyone yet though.

If Apple hadn’t pulled the update you could see if the update was in the Home app or not.

Other than that, if you’ve updated to the new architecture and have an iPad, the Home in the Settings app is no longer there. Similarly on the Apple TV the option to change the Home status from “connected” to “not connected” no longer shows up.

After one of invitation is working, I try to add my sister iPhone in home app. It work fine this time.

To update to new home architecture, you need to update in the home setting. If you just update iOS 16.2, your home architecture won't update yet. Apple already pull off the update option in home setting now, so I don't think that you can't update unless you are on beta program. Also, Roll back is not possible as well.

The fact that you’re starting fresh is probably the key. Nothing to replace or go wrong on update.

Yeah that's true. I'm starting fresh and I only have a few devices: an Apple TV and just a few smart plugs and smart light bulbs.

It's a very simple setup so far.

Though I can see how people with complex setups could have problems.

Good luck everyone. And Merry Christmas!

:)

Can’t get automations to work after the update even after rebooting all the hubs. 🤷‍♂️

I honestly do not know what issues people have been having, I have 12 Home Pod minis and all updated to 16.2 with only one taking slightly longer then the others,
Sorry to anyone who has suffered issues but all fine here.

Do you use automations and if so can you verify they’re working? (not just the Test button as that works for me but the actual automations don’t trigger when they’re supposed to)

I honestly do not know what issues people have been having, I have 12 Home Pod minis and all updated to 16.2 with only one taking slightly longer then the others,
Sorry to anyone who has suffered issues but all fine here.

For example, my system includes:

1 iPhone 14PM

1 12.9 iPad Pro

1 MacBook Air

1 iMac

3 Apple TVs (one brand new one, one a generation back and one two generations back.)

3 Eufy mesh routers

3 NanoLeaf bulbs

1 Hue Hub controlling…

27 Hue bulbs and accessories

2 Vocolink power strips

4 Vocolink smart plugs

6 Belkin smart plugs

6 Logitech smart plugs

2 Onvis motion sensors

1 EVE motion sensor

4 Logi Circle cams

4 Eufy security cameras

2 August smart locks

1 Belkin Sound Form Airport 2 adapter

4 strings of Twinkly Christmas lights

1 iHome environment sensor

1 Nest thermostat

That’s the bulk of it, though I’m sure I’m forgetting some things. It’s probably around 85 or so individual HomeKit enabled devices.

With those I’m running at least 1/2 dozen shortcuts and 35 automations of varying complexity.

Now, as a GENERAL comment, not to the member I’m relying to in this post: Please do tell us again how your system of 15 Apple branded devices is working great with the new HomeKit architecture. I’m sure it’s very helpful for those of us who are actually fully invested in the HomeKit ecosystem.

The fact that I had multiple devices that can't get iOS 16 or Ventura, including other people in my house, meant it was a no-go to update for me.
you know, I was hesitant to upgrade the architecture because it promises pre-16.2 devices will no longer function with the home app, but for [reasons] I went ahead and upgraded the architecture anyway. but heres the interesting bit: I downgraded my iPhone to 16.1.2 for [reasons] and everything works totally normally like it always did (ok 95% the same because 1 of the 18 devices in my setup now takes a couple seconds to update its status in the Home app. it happens to be one of several thread-enabled devices and, as such, was always one of the instant ones instead of relying on slow bluetooth or a hub to relay etc. but this small delay for 1 device is nowhere near the purported complete loss of functionality/interoperability. strange, eh?

HomeKit hasn't worked properly since updating to the new architecture.. I sure hope they sort it out considering there's no way to go back

My worry is Apple has only acknowledged one problem, which is the inability to add other people to your home. I haven’t seen anything mentioned about the other problems people are having ranging from devices stuck in configuring to recording no long working and everything in between.

Yes, the issue I'm having is I set everything up using my Apple TV 4K as a hub and it works perfectly for a few days then all of a sudden I see devices not responding or devices not reachable.. Happened 3 times already and each time I reset all devices involved, sign out and back into iCloud, then add all my devices back to HomeKit.. I stopped trying after the last attempt
