Unless your software directly interfaces with hardware, like a video card or printer the OS shelters your software from the hardware. Windows programmers for the most part never worry about the hardware.

we have no idea why they pulled this browser extension. It could be a back end issue like iCloud. Also I would bet this extension to a Chromium browser is universal to all platforms and not written specifically for Windows.
Just so you know, the extension explicitly checks that it’s running on Windows and calls native code (probably in iCloud for Windows) to work.

For “real” day to day work, I need Windows. For fluff, UI fluidity, I use iPhone. Win-Win situation.

Even though it is the most widely used browser, i feel like it's the one browser that does not fit into Apples Privacy "message". They should add a Firefox Extension. And add this extension to the Edge Store, so you don't have to get it from Googles store.

Taking $11B/year from Google to make them the default search engine on iOS devices doesn't fit Apple's privacy "message" either but money is money I guess.

Apple's software quality is degrading year by year to the point where Windows will soon have caught up.

You haven't used Big Sur on new Macbook M1 have you? Resetting the device bricks the OS, broken trackpad palm rejection, Xbox One X controller still doesn't work, schizo auto brightness, USB-C hubs brick the device, etc. And, MacOS feels like a big services ad. Run Music nags for a subscription. Run Apple TV nags for a subscription. Worse user experience than Windows on $500 Lenovo Yoga 6.

They pulled this the day it was released - and then the Chrome addon came out almost two days later. They haven’t re-released it yet. I would imagine very few people managed to get it during the less than an hour it was actually available.

Not so sure about this article. I think you are getting people riled up for no reason about it “not working”. I have yet to see a single report by someone who actually has iCloud for Windows v12 and the extension.

Apple seems to think making ****** low effort software for Windows will convince its platform agnostic customers that macOS is so much better than Windows. Quite the opposite

iCloud only just supported windows scaling a few months back lol

There is the issue. It doesn't instill great confidence to release and pull software that it is safe and/or not bugged out.

And yes, insert PC joke but I have never had major issues with PCs. It is the same thing that when some people see a bug in iOS the Apple fans are fast to defend Apple for it only being isolated incidents. You know, Apple's famous "a small percentage of users" line to downplay the issue. But when it's PC: "oh PC SUX!!!!" The double standard of course.

No one is switching from PC to Mac to use keychain (or cant due to work/etc.) if it's bad on PC. There are too many good password managers out there for cross-platform. This is really a too little too late thing; this should have been out years ago with keychain on iOS.

Everyone is already ingrained in their own system they've been using; which Apple makes it impossible without a Mac to import or export keychain (like the major players that you can just get a .csv file) so it's a non-starter for most to switch or try it.

Great then drop all Apple and move on 100% to Windows and call it a day if it's so bad and Microsoft is suddenly so great. 🙄

Apple programmers don't seem be able to write software for Windows to the same quality that they write it for their native hardware.
The same said about Microsoft's programmers when it comes to the dog Office has been for many years on Mac. Slow loading of applications on the fastest Mac (instantly load on Windows with a 10 year old slow PC) and clunky UI.
I have great admiration for Windows programmers because you have to write software that is able to cope with millions of different hardware permutations from hundreds of different companies
LMAO they are still writing for Windows at the end of the day no matter what PC it's being installed. What a silly thing to say.
, with Apple you're only having to write for a small subset of hardware specifications.
Pretty sure Apple's programmers couldn't care less about Windows customers just as Microsoft's programmers doesn't give a crap about Apple's customers. It's obvious as Microsoft is continually to this day creating ads trying to get people to buy a Surface and ditch Macs. Office has sucked on Macs for way too many years and to this day is still missing applications that are only on Windows and Mac users pay the same full price for less quality and less features.

Apple seems to think making ****** low effort software for Windows will convince its platform agnostic customers that macOS is so much better than Windows. Quite the opposite
LMAO that's exactly what Microsoft does to Apple customers. Lordy the irony in this post. Microsoft's latest ad with that stupid kid telling the world to buy a Surface Pro and dump the Macbook. I mentioned earlier how crappy Office for Mac has been over the years. Purposely done to deter people from buying Macs or to force Mac users to buy a PC or buy Windows to install on a Mac just to get the proper experience they deserve on Office.

And Windows has had scaling problems for years. 🙄

Pushing, pulling, pushing, pulling…
What do you call that?
Gym workouts?

I call it Apple being responsible. They could've left it there and allowed it cause issue that would make matters worse. But I love how this forum knee-jerks with zero facts as to why it was truly pulled. 🙄

They better ditch the whole iCloud and Outlook integration for Windows entirely and move the team to their watch band packaging team. The entire thing is nothing but a heap of problems and stopped working completely in Office/Outlook (365) about a year ago. No chance to get it working anymore...

Apple sees problems at Microsoft and Microsoft sees problems at Apple and no one moves. THAT is the way you get problems solved nowadays.

EDIT: Yes. I am aware being quite negative and somewhat angry about this....

This may be Apple's software, but it's running on Windows. 'nuf said.

Most widely used is debatable. WebKit, which powers every browser on iOS, is likely the most widely-used browser rendering engine.
There's plenty of password managers that are cross browser compatible, and and far better than what Apple offers. Go find one that you like, and enjoy this today.

Keychain integration into Safari has existed long before "iCloud Keychain" came into existence. I've been using Safari's password management for years and it has worked perfectly. I've tried several other password managers, but they always felt "bolted on" and didn't have the same staying power as Keychain built into macOS and iOS.

No Windows hate here. It would be silly to hate an OS. Simply use the OS that works for you and makes you happy. I've found mine. I'm glad you've found yours.

A fish doesn't know it's in water...

You're right, people can make their tools work for them. But are they missing out on something better because they have blinders on? I've seen that countless times with Windows users. Many still can't see the greener pastures past the fence.

Oh... Ok. I didn't claim any other OS to be completely bug free either.
I never understood the Windows/Mac hate. Yes, some versions were not so great, but I never had serious issues with windows, and it rarely let me down. Windows 10 has been pretty good so far, like the new direction MS is taking it.
Windows 10 is excellent. I don't care what the haters say. These folks who live in an apple bubble and haven't used Windows since XP don't know what they're talking about.

For the short time I used this, the username/passwords didn't auto fill, you gotta click on extensions in chrome next to the url bar and prompt it to fill, after entering the 6 digit 2FA everytime..........

When this got announced, I thought passwords would sync with chrome, but ah well..........

Office for Mac isn't THAT bad anymore. Problem is, office is ubiquitous enough to force people over, whereas practically no software Apple makes is. Even Final Cut is starting to reduce in appeal as Resolve and Premiere continue making strides with render times.

Well enjoy using Windows. Nobody is stopping you. I will continue to use Final Cut Pro. I don't need popular software. I need software and a computer that works for me. Windows and many non-Apple softwares don't. And it's mighty shameful that Office isn't THAT bad anymore, especially when Office was on Mac long before it was written for Windows. Microsoft screwed over Mac customers for years pissing on the Mac version of Office. Shame you seem to be okay with being forced to use software for Windows.

Or.....don't release it until it's ready. Or beta test. You know, responsibility. But I get it, it's easier to just discount anyone else's opinion with it's their fault..

And yet you're on a Mac forum. The irony is strong here. 🙄
No, it's an Apple forum for ALL Apple products and news last I checked. I know it's hard to understand some people can possibly like some products/software and not others.

Discounting other's opinions help nothing. You clearly lack objectivity, and if world events have taught us anything lately it is that no objectivity, bullying people who have differing opinions that you ar with us or against us, and can't be bothered to hear out and to try to understand the other side of an argument means you have zero credibility.

My first impression is that it's garbage. I have it up and running and it is only 1-way sync. From icloud to chrome not from chrome to icloud. I expected better Apple. What a great "user experience"

It is not one way, if you login to a site that isn’t in keychain it will ask you if you want to add it.

They cover all apple products here. I used a mac for several years then went back to Windows 10. I've had an iphone since the first one. That's why I'm here.
Not worth your time; thumbs-down anything remotely being critical of Apple.
