Yet another company Apple buys and doesn't use to improve and innovate their software and products.
Do you think they just buy a company, load a software module, and click "go"? It takes time to get a new team up to speed on the internal workings of everything and then figure out how to integrate their tech into the system.

Isn't everyone tired of those fake marketing pictures yes? First of all the AI got the number of bicycles wrong, and then it's not your friend Amber, but Amber (?) acting like she's ringing (a random) door bell, while some guy is taking her picture. I wish I had just 1 % of the money Apple is flushing down here.

Just out of curiosity why you believe that they're not going to use the companies resources?

Listen, I'll lament about Apple's boorish behaviour in the market with buying companies to block others access to tech but Apple absolultely tends to use those technologies that they buy.

Siri was a purchase. TouchID was a purchase/License, Multi-touch was a purchase. FaceID was a purchase. almost every company Apple has bought they've integrated the tech into their devices in some way.

it' just so happens by buying the company, they can prevent competitors from gaining access temporarily to that tech. so it tends to be a win/win for Apple.

Silk's website says that it aims to "bring next-generation visual and audio intelligence to connected products" with "state-of-the-art image and audio recognition."

"...so you don't have to."

When your bank account is hacked because someone gained access to the mountain of data being collected on you including reading your emails and transcripts of conversations with your bank, you will change your mind. It happened 3 times with a coworker who used her Android phone as her computer. Changed passwords, hacked, then closed the account still hacked again, changed to a Credit Union, next payday hacked. Got rid of her Android like I suggested from the start, no more hacks.

Privacy is a function of Security. The more information that is stored outside of your control, the more likely you will be hacked.

There are a few flaws with this.

First, with my bank Chase, you communicate via secure email inbox. It means you go to the website to communicate or within the Chase app. Emails will not contain confidential information nor contain transcripts of conversation. She should go with a bank that understands security more.

Second, the hacking is usually a byproduct of user choices. It's obvious that your coworker didn't know what she was doing since there are millions of Android users who have not been hacked. Social engineering is often misinterpreted as a device problem and not a user problem. Intrusion on user devices highly stems from user acceptance of software to manifest itself on a device.

Third, you can still get hacked on the iPhone. As an example, look at the numerous apps Apple had removed from the store. There are still plenty of floating Trojan horses there that Apple still hasn't discovered yet. And let's not even start with Mac apps that are distributed out of band from the App Store.

Privacy is a false sense of security. Everything is stored outside of your control when you are on the internet. Just exhibit common sense, and you will be fine.

If you need software to tell you the difference between a person and a bicycle you've got bigger problems.

I have a feeling this has more to do with the next gen Homepod than Siri. Siri might as well be a lost cause, and hopefully Apple has moved a majority of the dev team to making a new AI assistant.

Reminds me of China Surveillance.. lol j/k

It would probably be good to know how far Apple can go with all all this stuff before coming clean about privacy is now on the level that we can't protect the user anymore, because AI has taken control. And users want AI to be smarter
