A few minutes ago, on the Jeopardy TV show, in the category "Tech Topics", Alex Trebek read this answer:

"Apple designed the iPod to sync up with this, its online music store."

The contestant answered correctly: "The iTunes Music Store."

Has anybody heard an Apple-related question on the show before?

I very rarely watch "Jeopardy." But I will be very anxious to hear the answer to your question. My only real connection to the show is that my father-in-law was a contestant on the show in the 60's.

How did your father-in-law do?

My only connection is that I watch it occasionally and that I once went to a taping of the college edition of the show. The school I was rooting for lost. :(

Let's see.

Alex Trebek's university = University of Ottawa
topicolo's university = Alex Trebek's university

Therefore...

Actually, it's "WHAT IS the Apple iTunes Music Store".
There was one other (sort of) Apple-related question once.

Trabek: "This man and his dream brought computers to our lives, and yet ruins those lives daily."
Contestant: "Who is Bill Gates and that piece-of-crap OS, Windows."
Trabek: "Correct! Go again..."

I'm going to apply (at the insistance of my friends, who once watched me answer about 90% of the jeopardy answers correctly before the contestants, while I was drunk) to be on college jeopardy this year...

My wife said that the show was taped and so she got to watch it with her father at home. She thinks that he won less than a thousand dollars.

I hope that you will be successful tpjunkie, let us know when you are going to be on the show.

I considered taking the test for the teen tournament like my brother did, except I would have had to go to Baltimore to do it. Maybe I'll go for the College tournament myself next year...

On the same show yesterday, there was a not-quite Apple reference. The category for the "Final Jeopardy" question was "Jobs". But it turned out to be about employment, not CEOs! So we didn't get TWO Apple references in one show.

In my imagination:

Trebek: "As head of both Apple and Pixar, this Jobs has been a visionary in two industries."

Contestant #1: "Who is Job in the bible's book of Job?"

Contestant #2: "Who is Michael Eisner?"

Contestant #3 (Sean Connery): "I'll get you for this, Trebek!"

I saw the episode last night, and was pleasantly surprised by the Apple reference. I was glad that he answered correctly too! ;)

You'll need a big leap of logic to figure this one out :)

yeah
i definitely saw an answer on jeopardy once that was one of those picture answers. They had a picture of an original iMac ("Bondi Blue") and said something about Apple and 1998. The question was, of course, "What is the iMac?"

It often surprises me that Jeopardy answers about technical topics seem so easy, while Jeopardy answers about, say, history and geography are much harder. But I know it is just my impression based on my areas of knowledge (techie stuff) versus subjects I'm not as good at.

I do remember one show that had an answer something like this:

This computer peripheral is used to print information on paper.

That sure seems easier than

Banweulu, Tanganyika, and this body of water are the three large natural lakes in northern Zambia.

But it's probably just my impression.

(Correct question: What is Mweru?)
