This holiday season, Apple donated $5 to The Global Fund for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, the Apple Store app, and Apple retail stores in the U.S. and other countries.

The Global Fund this week said that Apple raised a total of $3 million for the organization, which is dedicated to fighting HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in developing countries.

Apple capped donations at $3 million, so that means Apple customers raised the total possible amount through their purchases. Apple ran the promotion from November 28 through December 7 to fund critical health programs that save lives.

Apple has long supported The Global Fund with similar promotions and through sales of devices manufactured in (PRODUCT)RED colors. Apple has not offered any of its iPhones or accessories in (PRODUCT)RED colorways since the launch of the 2022 iPhone 14 models, but it does raise money each December in honor of World AIDS Day.

Apple has raised more than $250 million for The Global Fund during its 19-year partnership with the (RED) brand.

fun fact, AIDs would still exist.
If you think that’s fun in any kind of way you know absolutely nothing. It’s a typical MacRumors comment as snarky & mean spirited meaningless nonsense. AIDS sure as hell exists now, but it doesn’t need to. We have all the tools we need to put an end to this miserable, horrific pandemic. But the political will to make this go away just isn’t there these days. This flippant attitude of “it’s not my problem” is what keeps it going. Your comment being a perfect example. Thanks for your cruel inference, not! 🤬

I can't believe anyone is throwing them bouquets for such an incredibly paltry charity effort.

Goodness gracious.
Can't we expect a little more out of our favorite 4 Trillion company?

It was a matching program ... and capped at only 3M?
Apple is not responsible for saving the world. Yet over the years they have been incredibly generous either various philanthropic efforts.

How much did YOU donate?
I can say that I donated far more than 0.003% of my annual income.

I bet Apple has “contributed” more to the corrupt Trump Administration this year than all of their charitable donations combined.

And yes, I realize Apple is a business and bribery openly rules the day in Washington D.C. now, which is why it’s ridiculous when people feel the need to defend, “whataboutism”, or carry their water for them.

Please bring back my RED iPhones especially when this year's iPhone Pros are back with Aluminum chassis. Thank you Tim Apple!

How nice of Apple... here's $5 while we take you for 19-27% on that balance on the card (The real reason for the "fundraising" promo).

Here in Italy, a few years ago Apple settled in court for their attempt to evade taxes. They gave us around $370M.
We spend around 15% of that for public health, so it's $55M.
And it's a settlement! They owed us more than a billion.
And they've recently been fined again for $115M.
And that's for Italy alone.

I was sure $3M was breadcrumbs to clean their image (and possibly pay even less taxes and funnel clean money to some friends like most rich charities do) but until I did the math, I couldn't know things were this bad.

They don't care about the collectivity at all. They only care about money. We must take care for ourselves instead, tax corporations in a fair way and laugh at their attempts to seem good while they steal our resources.

Corporations do not engage in tax evasion, which is illegal. Whatever the backstory above, I’m sure it’s a lot more nuanced than your take of tax evasion.

You're both right and off the mark.

Are they technically evading taxes? No. Are they effectively evading taxes through international loopholes and other forms of creative accounting? Yes. They're not paying taxes they're meant to pay.

This doesn't mean Apple or other companies are necessarily evil for doing so, but think of the money they'd contribute to the public good if they did... and we wouldn't necessarily be 'punished' with higher prices.
