I still refuse to get a warranty.

I would rather pay $80 more if it turns out I *NEED* it than pay a definite $100 on the off chance that it may eventually save me $80.

$100 for the chance to POSSIBLY save $80.

If the phone doesn't break I saved $100 you lost $100.
If the phone breaks you saved $80 and I lost $80.

I would rather take the chance and save $100 than pay $100 on the chance to save $80. The cost is greater than the savings. If you end up breaking your phone twice it becomes a godsend but otherwise I think its a rip off.

Just makes sense to me.
Its obvious to all that you understand the concept of lottery with insurance, well done:)

I would argue that the post you quoted is the most useful post in the thread. And that this thread proves that many people don't understand the concepts he outlined. But keep up your snarky posts. They add a lot of value.

Thanks I agree:)
Many people post that no insurance is the morally/financial high ground because they don't use it. Insurance is a lottery most of the time you lose but sometimes you win. To say many people don't understand the concepts he outlined is, well quite arrogant don't you think?

Some people look at it like this...

"if I don't use my applecare in the two years, the I WILL make sure I use it just before it expires"

They will get a new phone, with new battery and scratch free after 2 years, which should get them another year or so, all for $150

but wouldn't it make sense if you have 3 or 4 year old kids that want your phone to play with? if you use the warranty once, your in $80, if you use it twice, your in $150.

Something to think about.

Doesn't AppleCare plus also extend warranty another year? That's worth it when it comes to resell value.

Interesting. I haven't thought of it like that.

Most customers spend $20-30 on a case to protect their phone. Also if at the end of 2 years your battery needs replacement that's another $80.

With applecare you can avoid both of those costs ($100 total) and simply spend $100 in advance knowing that you can be care free and case free because in 2 years you will get a brand new scratch-free iPhone replacement for $50.

yes, but iphones with no case feel wrong in the had, not comfortable at all.

I know people that buy lifeproof cases for $90 that turn their slim stylish phone into a faceless brick.

true, never thought of actual hardware defects, these cost $0

Honestly $229 doesn't even sound that bad.

I always thought that you would have to pay full price to get a replacement (like an unlocked phone).

I never knew about this replacement scheme either.

Seems it's offered in the UK too.
