That’s not happening. It’s local storage, so just use a USB C or lightning drive to back it up or use a 3rd party Photos app

You know exactly what I’m talking about, 5GB of storage for iCloud backups is pathetic in 2026.

Keep in mind that 5GB was introduced at the end of 2011 with the iPhone 4S, so Apple have not given you any extra storage increases for 15 years!

Yep, I suppose Apple could offer no free storage tier and some people might be happier 🙂.

iCloud storage is already very expensive with very unhelpful tiers of storage. The step from 2TB to 6TB is particularly egregious. I hope they leave the pricing alone here in the US, but I fear that this may be a naive hope.

Since when? I have optimized photos enabled so most of them are just on the cloud.

If you have iCloud Photos disabled then it’s on Local Storage. Download all the Photos and then try to save them to a drive

Yeah. This tiering makes no sense except for forcing everyone into the most expensive tier. I use not even 25% of my plan but can’t go down. ****** tactics.

All Apple Accounts receive 5GB of free iCloud storage. Apple's iCloud+ plans give users extra storage, as well as perks like Hide My Email, HomeKit Secure Video, and iCloud Private Relay.

Not actually correct, all accounts get 1GB, that increases automatically to 5GB when an Apple device is linked to the iCloud account (only needs to be linked once, and can be disconnected afterwards, but the device is still required to get the additional 4GB)

pricing for cloud storage, regardless of who offers it, has only 1 way to go: UP.

We are paying for AI cloud storage now? Google offers 15GB storage for free.

I love how they are called "fluctuations". Too bad it works only "one way". Only when the currency goes down.

The Apple One Premier bundle will increase by:
2 USD
2 EURO (which is 2.28 USD)
2 CHF (Swiss Franc) (which is 2.47 USD)

In the last two years the Swiss Franc has increased relative to the USD by 11% and I didn't see any decrease in pricing... Go figure.
