I'm envisioning an Apple robot that, like the rest of us, also starts getting frustrated with how inept Siri is

Sort of "sibling complaints" in this case I guess?

😂
You: Siri, turn on the living room lights.
Siri: Here’s what I found on the web for Enhanced Political Might . . .
Robot: Stupid ****.
You: I know, right?
😆

Under the purview of Kevin L. Amazing how little change there has been in Apple executive mgmt. Tim, Craig, Kevin, Eddie, Kevin, Phil, etc. Will be interesting to see what happens should they retire enmass within a year or two window.
Kevin already tried to kill Adobe in his previous job, and now he's driving Apple to the same slow demise until he leaves or retires. Adobe finally got back on track when he left. When I saw his name I immediately got a feeling of doom on this project.

Robot: "Shall I activate targeting scanners and load photon torpedoes?"
You: "No, I still need it for the NON-Siri functionality."
Robot: "Can I refer you to a codependent psychologist in this area?"
You: "No, I need no such help."

Robot ponders yet another example of the illogical nature of the biological "master"... and discreetly sends observations back to the secret-but-rapidly-accumulating Skynet A.I. database. ;)

While the research paper provided a glimpse into Apple's robotics experimentation, Gurman has previously reported that the company is developing a tabletop robot with an "iPad-like display" attached to a robotic limb. This device, which could launch by 2027, is expected to be primarily controlled with Siri and Apple Intelligence, with the ability to respond to commands like "look at me" during FaceTime video calls.
Still seems like silly overkill. What prevents Facetime call participant(s) from getting confused and responding “I’m already looking at you?….”

Better handled as a setting that says “always follow me during a call”, or short of that, maybe even some hand gesture, but using voice to command the device you are using while engaged in an audio or audio+video call sounds like a recipe for disaster.

With how long they take to make a foldable device, I will be farting into dirt before I see an Apple robot

Introducing Apple Dirt... the bestest of the bestest, magical, funnnner dirt we've ever created. We think you'll love it. ;)

Don't opt to be buried in inferior, regular dirt because only Apple dirt is the good dirt. You cannot completely rest in peace buried in non-Apple dirt.

All the cool kids are choosing Apple dirt. You can't be a cool kid unless you buy Apple dirt too. Only $169 per 5 pound bag. Or upgrade to 10 pounds for only $299. Available today. Order now. ;)

"I don't know what you mean by mistaken assured. Here's what I found on the web for mistaken assured."
"No shaken... SHAKEN!"
"I don't know what you mean by bacon, bacon. Here's what I found on the web for bacon, bacon."
"No... um... well... bacon. ♥️♥️♥️

And when you post this sequence on a forum, the usual 10 or 20 guys will spin YOUR mistake and/or tout Apple bacon as the one and only good bacon. ;)

I admit I don't often agree with your points, but this WAS funny. Not sure about your last line so will gloss over it lol.

Yeah, I agree. Siri is not Apple's finest moment. I only use it for relatively simple things. But I am an old fart and do a lot of things for myself.

AVP will eventually become somewhat mainstream. It's just early. It's a good first gen. I will definitely get one once it matures and there is a decent ecosystem for it.

I completely disagree

I do not believe a giant headset will every become somewhat mainstream

augemented reality will have get down to near normal eyeglass size to ever get serious uptake

spatial computing interfaces, meanwhile, will be projected rather than worn on the face

It’s the Apple car situation all over again..

The Apple "car situation" was due to a 100% tariff announced in May 2024 for EVs manufactured in China, and in place by the end of 2024.

You might not be aware that doubling the price of Apple's car in the US would not make it competitive.

While we don't know the MSRP Apple intended, my guess is that if they HALVED the price of an Apple car, it would not be competitive. ;)

No, it would be incredibly competitive at $30-40K. However, Apple would be losing money doing that. Not a good thing.

So nothing to do with years and years of supposed development, rumoured total lack of direction of the project, no product to show, billions wasted, endless staff including high profile ones leaving, and no manufacture agreeing a manufacturing deal with Apple.
I think those factors at least contributed heavily to it being scrapped, more so then tariffs being applied, plenty of European and American based manufacturers. It of course Apple wouldn’t be able to hit its 30% profit margin then.

The Apple car project seemed a mess not long after it supposedly started, I wonder if making robotics will follow the same path? At least robotics is a new field for home use though and much much more in line with Apples target market.

So you know MSRP would be $60K-$80K, because I never saw that announced anywhere?

I just don't envision an Apple-branded car for "only" $60K-$80K at all. And as a wild guess, THAT was likely the problem that led to scrapping the project.
