Exactly. Also, Apple's entire product line is on one page (+ the various configurations, of course) whereas Amazon sells hundreds of thousands if not millions of products on its own and through its affiliates. Apple also sells other products, but even then, the numbers can't add up to more than a thousand or two.

When all that is taken into account, being #5 is truly amazing.

Apple.com sells more than their product lines. Not comparable to amazon, but its not JUST mac/ipod. I would even venture to say they sell more non-mac/ipod product than the latter.

This is amazing! Especially considering they haven't released an all new cool product since the original iPad. I'm getting bored with Apple. Gonna buy three kindle fires for people on my list. If they wold have even put forth the minimal effort the update the pod line, I'd be buying apple. They're getting lazy.

Impressive, period!!!

Personally, I buy much of my stuff, including my current MBP, from Amazon. The sale tax savings alone make it worth it plus the deep discounts (15" base MBP was only $1,599 on Monday from Amazon).

Also, my CC is an Amazon CC so I get triple points which is like a 3% rebate on all amazon purchases. But, still, an impressive show for Apple, Perhaps if they have 10-15% savings on BF next year they will move to 4th place ;)

I added to Apple's hit count quite a few times over Thanksgiving just checking to see if they had any more refurbished 16GB iPad 1's for sale for cheap.

...and just like the "Facebook kids" at the brick-and-mortar Apple stores, you made it look busy without actually buying anything.

;)

Amazon is at the top since you can often score better deals from them than from Apple's own site. Plus everything else that Amazon sells.

I used to buy a lot from Yahoo's sites but not lately. It is surprising to see Apple in the top 5 since their product catalog is so small.

then it's really just like visiting the Apple site really.

Hey he said 'really' two times in the same sentence, yuk yuk

Where's Microsoft on that list? Oh wait, I know, next year when Windows 8 is released it will be a different game, right? LOL

:apple:

Picking on Microsoft is kind of like beating a long dead horse.

Be sure to include the receipt when you give them the fires.

Look who's getting lazy now

Why? The margins on television sets are razor thin.

I think Sony's television division hasn't been profitable for something like five years.

MP3 players don't make money

Tablets don't make money

PCs don't make money

Phones don't make money

Retail stores don't make money

Microsoft doesn't really do retail, so whats your point?

Second:

kinect - fastest selling consumer electronic device, all time.
windows7 - fastest selling operating system, all time.

Your point was what again?

I know that a lot of the first 4 visits came from people looking for TVs and Bluray players etc., but I bet a lot their numbers came from people looking for Apple products. They probably checked the Apple site last (or not at all) to see if they were offering discounts as well.

So why the effort on their part to open Microsoft stores?

Brand equity and consumer relations, not sales. In fact, a focus on sales* would without doubt create conflict between microsoft and OEMs, as Microsoft would necessarily have to play favorites.

Also, please note, i did not say that Microsoft doesn't do retail at all; in fact, they do, not only with B&M stores, but also online. I said they don't focus on it, which they don't.

Thank you, come again :)

* exception being Xbox, as that is their own product.

Brand equity and consumer relations, not sales.

The stores aim to "improve the PC and Microsoft retail purchase experience for consumers worldwide and help consumers make more informed decisions about their PC and software purchases."

“There are tremendous opportunities ahead for Microsoft to create a world-class shopping experience for our customers,” Porter said.

Sales.

Brand equity and customer relations. Sure, the optimal goal is to sell windows -- but the stores - at least at this point - is nothing but showcasing.
