Someday, way into the future, when Apple is a shell of what it is today, they can be a patent troll!!

For Huawei it’s 2,770 hacks

For Samsung it’s 6,366 competitor applications we tweaked enough to generate a patent

I worked at IBM back in the 1990s. IBM patents everything! Most of the patents probably don't mean much, but they get patents anyway. It was rather a joke inside the company. I'm thinking the same is true for Samsung. I think patent laws should be changed so that frivolous patent applications get rejected.
Agreed. I worked for IBM in the early 2000’s and basically all they do now is patents their old business model failed in Australia as they just cut costs and laid off the workforce. But not sure how many of these patents are of any real use.

Lol, nowhere to be found. No idea what the CEO was thinking last week.

It's basically a mis-translation of a Chinese Weibo post by their CEO that made it sound so dramatic. He was basically saying that during their company strategy meeting they agreed that moving into higher-end products is a matter of utmost importance for their growth. Apple wasn't even mentioned.

More than just a number of patents filed/held, I’d be curious to know how many patents actually come to fruition of actual products.

So now were bragging over how many Patents we have….. i mean really?
Who's bragging? You visited a site whose purpose is to report bits of information about Apple. This is a bit of information that relates to Apple. It's not like they're quoting an Apple press release or Apple marketing materials.

It's not the quantity of the patents that matters. The quality of the patents are far more important. Evolutionary patents are all but useless. Revolutionary patents, patents that disrupt existing thinking and shake up markets on. big scale, are far more important.

IFI Claims' 2021 Global 250 rankings reveal the world's largest patent holders by looking at all of the patents currently held by companies. In these rankings, Apple takes 37th place, with 20,491 active patents. Samsung is currently the world leader for active patents, with 90,416 in total. Microsoft, LG, Sony, Intel, and Qualcomm also beat Apple in terms of global active patents.

Apple's patent filings often reveal interesting insights into the company's specific areas of research and development, but they are not representative of its immediate plans. Recent interesting Apple filings include designs for all-glass iPhones and Apple Watches, a removable MacBook key that works as a mouse, user authentication technology for AirPods, a hydration sensor for the Apple Watch, use of the Mac Pro's "cheese grater" like design on other Apple devices, periscope camera systems, and deployable MacBook Pro feet to aid cooling.

If Apple hold patents but they're not currently being used, then they should be invalidated. At least that's the stance of a few members here. Or does that only apply when the patent holder isn't Apple and Apple's being sued because they violated it / didn't pay to use it?

Id actually like to understand the humour behind this.
I know, I’m blind but I just can’t see it.
Appreciate your help here.

It’s a simple comparison between Laird Knox’s patent filing compared to these companies. Their large numbers obviously trump his single one. (To ‘trump’ something or someone is a term that comes from card games that mean to outdo or surpass.) I see the humour in the vast difference in size between one and thousands.

I see what’s happened now.
I read “Trumps”, as “Trump’s”.

7th place...Apple has to step up its game ?
Why they may not need more patents to protect 5hemselves why spend more than you need? Remeber this was for US ostents, to get workd wide orotaction you might need to replicate them over hundred times, unless a US patent is automattucally valud and grants the holder the rught to sue infringers would wide
