Technology marches rapidly on. Poor people aren't buying iPhones - they're a luxury item. If you can't afford to replace an older iPhone when it becomes unable to keep up with newer iOS versions to your satisfaction, then you should find another smart phone option or just go with a non-smart phone. That isn't "entitlement" for me to have this perspective - I'm clearly not saying Apple owes me anything (which would be what entitlement is in this case). I don't buy technology assuming it will be future proof for years. I either live with not having cutting-edge performance after a while or decide to upgrade.
Poor people aren’t buying iPhones? What are you taking about? Take a walk.
Yes, iPhones are a luxury, but they are not luxurious items.
As @mikethemartian pointed out, they are being sold at wallmart, among other places. They are being provided to employees of all sorts in all types of fields, no one should be forced to upgrade, downgrade or change anything because the company you already gave your money to wants you to.
A corporation has to take responsibility for their products for the time they are (reasonably) being used, in this case for the time it can and should be updated and then some years on top in terms of safety because of batteries.
iPhones are common household products that shouldn’t just turn bad like an old apple if they don’t actually need to.
Your arguments continue to be flawed. You say an iPhone is a luxury item so it’s ok if it’s unnecessarily slowed down after a software update. See the irony?
Also, again, Apple lied. That’s the actual story. You keep taking your talk but keep ignoring that. I wonder why.

If you can afford an iPhone, you're not poor. If you're poor and borrowing money to obtain such luxury goods, then that's on you for taking that risk. Not sure why you and the other guy think that just because WalMart sells something means it can't be a luxury item. What's the logic there? I don't get it. Why would it matter if you buy the phone at the Apple Store, Amazon, Best Buy, etc. OR WalMart? It's still the same phone! It doesn't all of a sudden materially change inside the shipping box once it enters WalMart's receiving warehouses, lol!

And an employer providing an employee with a device is not the same as you personally going out and buying it. Most companies have a much larger budget than individual people.

no one should be forced to upgrade, downgrade or change anything because the company you already gave your money to wants you to.

Ah, so you're alledging that Apple's purpose for throttling was to encourage users to upgrade. I don't buy that for a second. I mean, obviously any company would be happy for users to constantly buy their latest products, but I just don't see this as some conspiracy to try to encourage that.

A corporation has to take responsibility for their products for the time they are (reasonably) being used, in this case for the time it can and should be updated and then some years on top in terms of safety because of batteries.

As another person pointed out on this thread in post 89, their iPhone 4S is still working just fine with iOS 9. Obviously it's not going to be as snappy in performance as the latest iPhones, but that's to be expected.

Your arguments continue to be flawed. You say an iPhone is a luxury item so it’s ok if it’s unnecessarily slowed down after a software update. See the irony?

No, I was responding to you saying people couldn't afford to update their iPhone, as if people who are struggling financially are buying iPhones.

Also, again, Apple lied. That’s the actual story. You keep taking your talk but keep ignoring that. I wonder why.

Well in that case every company lies all the time, because no matter what the product, there will always be people who claim their experience doesn't match the marketing hype. Just think of how many people on this forum post about wanting to "downgrade" their macOS for instance. Others are like "Huh? Works fine for me! I love it!"

Wow, $15 smackers.

These days you can buy a Whopper value meal and a gallon of gas with that.

Don't expect cheese on the Whopper at that price. It's extra.....
I don’t know where you live but in my state, you’re not getting both the fuel and the whopper meal. :)

Surprised it's not $14.99. Jokes aside iOS 9 on 4s was an inexcusable utter mess.

They can keep their fifteen dollars if they would allow me to drop my iPad 2 and 4s back down to iOS 6, which is the last operating system either of them should have been allowed to upgrade to.

My iPhone 4S is still rocking and I can make calls using textnow and line2 apps.

Are they not still signing iOS 6? That’s how I downgraded to iOS 8.

I definitely noticed a slow down after updating to iOS 9, but by that time I was using a 5s as my primary phone with a 6s three months away. I still have my 4s and every time when I take it out of the drawer I can’t believe how small it is compared to my 12 Pro. I’m not sure if it’s worth it to submit my claim? I could apply that $15 to the $1,200 512GB iPhone 14 Pro I may get. :D

Wow…what an utter waste of time, resources, and $$$. Why do these settlements even bother to occur?
They’d make sense if the majority of the money went to the class, not the lawyers… but much law seems to have been changed for lawyers and companies to exploit.

I imagine that most of the money did go to the class. It was just split into a million parts. So $15.

I still have my old 4S that I use as an iPod. Yes, performance is and was abysmal after the upgrade. iOS 6 was probably the best to run on it. Funny thing is my current iPhone is a 6S Plus. I ran 12.4.1 for years because it ran well. Unfortunately too many apps no longer upgraded so I finally took the plunge and upgraded to 15.4.1. Now my poor little iPhone stutters and behaves almost like the 4S on iOS 9. It almost seems like whatever version of iOS you phone ships with is what you should stick with. It will not get any better.

They should just give everyone a free apple magic wipe ..

But that would mean actually having to pay for something that is part of a settlement for every class member. I remember Verizon being sued for overbilling people, and getting a notice that the case was settled, and I was a class member and would get like $100!. Then months later, I got another email saying everyone would be getting a coupon for accessories, and not any 'cash' because of 'attorney fees'. The attorneys vacuum up the money in case after case and WE get a useless coupon. I'd wager that 40%, or less, actually used the coupons. I thought that 'sure, I'll go back there and get some useless 'Made in China' POC' with their name on it...

This is not so much about the $15 each person gets but rather the $20 million "penalty" Apple has to pay out in hopes that it will deter them (although for a company the size of Apple, $20 million probably isn't much of a deterrent) from trying to do something similar again in the future.
Yea as quick as that -$20M is entered on the ledger, they will have made 10x that

I don't even absolutely remember if i bought or skipped the 4S anymore. And how would i even get proof. It was a different carrier then. Am I going to call AT&T and be like "By the way, can you send me proof I had an iPhone 4S at one time?"

How about what they owe everybody for trashing every iPhone, with insanely buggy iOS starting at iOS 7…?
