This finding of intrigues where they don't exist is becoming pretty silly. Not only does it take time to schedule inspections, the work required to actually pass the inspection has to be completed before the inspector arrives or you don't get the sign-off. Logically Apple had zero reason to mask the location of this media event since we have to know they had every good reason to want to hold it in their new building if they could obtain the authorizations from the city in time.

The only semi-interesting reveal on this permit is that the property is not owned by Apple, but by an LLC that no doubt is owned by Apple. Otherwise, a total non-story.

With Apple's clout in Cupertino and the Planning and Zoning board fawning all over them like a new boyfriend? Like there was ever a doubt that COO would happen in time.

Ha, you really think the city of Cupertino is going to deny any permits to Apple? As the article says, it’s likely that Apple “asked” them to hold off on signing and/or putting the documents in the public domain in order for their business interests/secrets to be protected, which is more important than following civic procedures.

Apple runs that town.

My guess it Apple calculated out to the last possible moment the paint would need to dry before letting guests in.

I would love to see that army of gardeners and cleaners racing to the clock to prep the facility.

Gee, you think strings were pulled to get approval for the beloved Apple and beloved Steve Jobs' memory when they needed it?

Guess all the normal slobs just have to wait in the queue...

FactsVsOpinion: Why do guys like you clog up these forums with such useless posts? A guy asks an earnest question, and you give a glib, sarcastic, unfunny and unhelpful response that just takes up space for everyone reading?

The answer to the guy's question is: yes, that little ground-level hut qualifies as a vestibule, which is a space between a building's interior and the exterior/street. A famous example would be the top level "glass cube" of the Apple Store 5th Avenue, which is often referred to as a vestibule. The same holds true for the little glass building with the giant MacBook roof over the new below-grade Apple Store on the Chicago River. A structure like that might also be referred to as an "entry pavilion", "vestibule building", or if you wanna get super nerdy "ground level ingress/egress".

That is a super cool entrance. What would you call that? A vestibule?

As I posted over on AI just moments ago: why is this even newsworthy? Projects this big are pretty predictable, and if Apple knew they weren't going to get the permit, they would have known it weeks if not months ago. Getting the piece of paper that says they're good to go is just a formality, granted an important one.

Exactly. What's more, getting a TCO is often a precursor to merely having employees inside what is otherwise still technically a construction site. Retail companies often apply for TCOs so their set-up crews can stock a new store, etc. With Apple, of course any news at all will fuel rumors, but a temporary certificate of occupancy in and of itself says nothing specific about any upcoming plans. All it confirms is that "they're almost done."

If you know the right people anyone can do it. My suspicion is there was a little sneak attack happening from Apple saying *pssstt.!!.. move this forward" otherwise there would be no need for additional work in other areas.

My feeling is this area, and only this area, was (first in line) because of the event... Otherwise, it would be delayed.

Sheesh the comments on this forum has really gone to **** lately. Why are people so negative about everything?

I was wondering the same thing. They're very immature. My guess is that it makes people feel good about themselves.

I hope we get a "One more thing..." at the end to properly christen the Steve Jobs Theater.

It would be a nice tribute.

Ok, am I the only nerd that is thinking the iPhone event occurring at the new Steve Jobs Theater reminds me of Hari Seldon's first appearance at the "Vault" on Terminus. Will we get a hologram of Steve laying out the psychohistorical future of Apple? Is there a Second "Foundation" of Apple controlling our minds? Is Samsung "The Mule"?

Are these references too obscure? If so, you have missed one of the greatest Sci-Fi creations of all time. Asimov was a true genius.

I'm most interested to see the ground level shots of the theater exterior and as much of the grounds the press is allowed to explore. They'll likely be kept close to the theater, but these people are toting big glass on their DSLRs. As good as the fly-overs have been, this will be the first look, in many respects, of a very unique bit of architecture.

The theater itself will likely be a "First Rev" in production layout, but I expect it to be as plush an anything Apple rents for events. Hope they spend some time detailing "Our Place"

I hadn't thought of it, but yeah, it resonates. It could also mean that the Keynote will bear absolutely no relation to rumored expectations. However, are you suggesting a typical electronics conglomerate is an unpredictable mutation? Personally, I think 'Foundation and Empire' is the right theme these days.

It's also nice to know a gamekeeper is interested in Muggle literature!

the contractors are more worried about passing Apple's requirements than city/county.. like, the building already passed Apple's inspections so no sweat regarding the county..

Steve Jobs Theater is now deemed to be a safe venue for the hundreds of journalists

Not so sure about that, it's quite likely that a few might pass out from over excitement.

MacRumors said:
Apple filed for the certificate on August 8, so it's likely that Tim Cook or another senior executive told Cupertino to hold off on signing the paperwork, which would have hinted at the location of Apple's September event.

Crikey, they sent out invites prior to having approval for using the theatre?

Or, more likely it just took that long for some paperwork to get through the bureaucracy, but Apple already knew they would be able to host their event. Wasn't it already stated long ago, by Apple, that they wanted to host their upcoming events at the Steve Jobs Theater?

Seriously. If Tim Cook turned out to be a serial killer, the mayor of Cupertino would probably help him get rid of the bodies.

Such remarks reflect a very immature, immoral mind. You should be better than that. Seriously.

Well said.

That would be entirely too human for Tim. These presentations must be about as exciting as Shop Vac demonstration.

Seriously, could they find a less charismatic face for Apple? They could've hired an out of work actor or something. Hell, an unfinished pine 2x4 would be more interesting than Tim.

Yawn.

You're not too far off from the truth. No hologram will be shown - that I know of - but Jobs did record a video that was intended to be played when the campus officially opened. Will it be played during this event? Is it intended for the general public or just the staff? Thats what we're going to have to wait and see.

As to the rest of it, well maybe Samsung IS the Mule. Do they have the ability to make people accept their fate out of despair, and then convince them that even if they don't have the best in life, they're completely happy?
