I thought he was very unprofessional in the way he handled things. Cursing usually gets you no where when trying to make a coherent point.

I don't think has anything to do with professionalism. He was complaining to his adoring fans which expect Trent to be edgy and speak his mind. I'm sure he didn't email Apple cursing them up and down the street.

We macrumors and other rumor sites are the ones that blew it out of proportion. It was basically him talking to a friend, whom in turn talked to another friend...

Cry Baby Trent

nice! maybe Trent can cry about other apps too like the BABY SHAKE and get apple to approve it. Cry baby Trent!

I'm not a huge fan, but I completely agree and whole heartedly agree he has a valid point.

and to all you out there doggin' Trent's reaction:
all i've ever heard from most people on this forum in regards to apps is bitching and complaining about censorship, yet some of you point the finger to Trent claiming he is being a whiny bitch. look in the mirror much?

Alright Trent, take it easy… breathe slowly…

OK, OK.

While I get the whole point about freedom from censorship, as for Trent's reaction and ensuing rant on his forum… I think it's hilarious.

I went over to read the "explicit" original content. The app had to be approved soon due to a tour schedule that is upcoming I guess. The scathing litany about Apple and Wal-Mart to follow was nothing short of prime stand-up material. Sure hope Dane Cook or someone picks it up and runs with it.

What was so hilarious was the how the whole forum went to "stick it to the man" mode after Trent's post.

Man, wish I had that much free time to ponder over all the injustices that are being done to the entire free world due to some minor app not making it through the approval process. Apple is evil…… so evil.

Keep those "evil" hardware and software updates coming Apple! And hey, for a little side order of humor, go ahead and piss off the occasional celebrity…*it makes for some very funny reading.

P.S. You should see what he thinks of Wal-Mart.

I'm shocked that Apple actually responded and changed its mind.

Apple is usually like the proverbial black hole, totally unresponsive.

I guess you need some celebrity to get their attention - threaten to put a teeny, tiny dent in those $billions of profits and hurt the bottom line.

Is it just me who is tired of these stupid posts!!?? I don't really care about App Store approval and there is about three posts a week on App Store approvals!! I want iPhone rumors!! MacBook touch rumors!! Stop with App Store approval please. It's really boring!

I was going to post a lot of links to rumors on iPhone, Macbook touch, and SL, but then I decided I was far too lazy to do that. So, I decided to make a pointless post like you.
:D

Apple is very careful with their image and marketing to the iPod crowd (mostly teens to 30s). This is where they made billions of dollars and still make plenty more through iTunes. Believe it or not, Apple would be a completely different company today (not in a good way) if not for the success of iTunes and the iPod. It is not in Apple's best interest to begin to appear un-hip or paternalistic to this segment of society.

i kinda wish apple would have waited til 3.0 to allow this app in though. makes it look like they let it in just b/c of that guy whining

You can call it whining, but this guy has invested a lot of his time and money in the best interest of his fans' experiences. For Apple to reject an App due to musical/lyrical content, when this album is already sold through iTunes, is highly hypocritical and unjust. Sorry, Apple's word in not infallible.

Why can't there just be an app store rating system and then just like the itunes mobile store has explicit material restriction options apply that to the app store and the app rating system so we can have the explicit or objectionable content available to those who want it?

Boo, the shareholders should have more pull than a band member. I hope this isn't a sign on future caving in from celebs

I hope it's a sign of more positive change at Apple - indignant, uptight shareholders and celebs notwithstanding.

:apple:

He was whining like he was on Gossip Girl, but he had a pretty valid point, that's relevant both to the developer community at large and also to iPhone users.

Yes, because anyone who has a complaint against your corporate god is a whiner.

Another case of a famous person getting special treatment. My app is on its third submission and always had to start back of the queue, which is currently 9 days. The NiN app didn't take that long.
:(

You guys should really be putting more thought on what goes on the front page, with 2 pages of 40 comments people have voted with their posts on if they think this deserves front page mention. And it doesn't. Free publicity for Reznor though...

To be fair you don't have the exposure or fan base of Trent Reznor so I doubt they'd care. :p
Ok, I ll start cussing too and that will make two of us, which is going to equal Trent's fanbase, ie. himself and his ma, unless you count his ma's basement as an entity too.

.

Reznor doesn't need publicity.

So stupid for Apple to be control freaks.

1) Allow everything.
2) If I don't like it, I'll uninstall it.
3) If it sucks, I'll find out from the reviews.

What's so hard about that?

Fire The Gatekeepers

This is probably a case of low-level people making high-level decisions. Apple probably empowered some out-of-touch geeks to approve apps and they reacted to NiN like nails on a blackboard (sorry about the pun). It was obvious that the app should be allowed, but the empowered few got a little self-righteous with their new-found power and became gatekeepers. "None shall pass." Once the controversy started, thanks to Trent's rant, the higher-up muckety-mucks at Apple said let it pass. Now because of this and Baby-Shaker, the low-level geeks probably lost their keys to the gate. I have a feeling that from now on, there will be much less controversy over what apps are allowed. The big guns are now watching, and believe it or not, I trust them. Go see NIN/JA.
