Good point.
I guess I was more commenting on why would a Sr. iPhone Supprot Rep need to be comfy in something like Office and Outlook?
It's not like those apps will run on an iPhone, right??

Hmm, I'm guessing you've never had a job before? :p Most jobs require Office and Outlook skills. It's not for the technical support side, but for the basic use of the office computers etc.

good point, but Apple support reps aren't using PCs so outlook skills aren't needed. Office isn't particularly important either to support reps and the entry level skills needed are very easily taught.

Yes, 100% certain.
So is there some reason that you can't tell us that the relationship you have with Apple call centers in Austin? I looked back over your posts in this thread and it would be much more helpful if you just said "Oh I can clear these things up. I know this, this and that because I have this direct knowledge because I have this relationship with the Apple support centers in Austin." Rather then hinting at things, or is there some sort of NDA concerning call centers now?

I haven't actually hinted at anything. I've simply provided some information:)

You in Austin? There's more than just the call center here.

Lol and that image is scary skinnylegs, not a bad photoshop

So you aren't alluding to anything here?
I'm just saying if you want to talk like you have direct information just let us know so that we can tell the difference between when you are talking out of your butt or not.

Call centers are mostly third party regardless who they say the hiring company is. third party hiring and training mostly too.

and moving to Austin for $10 bucks and hour doesnt seem like pot-o-gold to me.

Nope, no allusions on my part. I do my best not to provide misinformation, but y'all will have to decide if I'm talking out of my butt or not:D . I don't disagree that there are 3rd party vendors. However in Austin the call center is Apple owned and Apple run. Apple does of course have outsource vendors but they use Macs as well because that's what Apple ships them to work on.

Oh and Bill an BilltheCat Austin no one starts at $10 an hour. Even the contractors start at more than that. But yeah I wouldn't exactly relocate my life to be a frontline phone agent either.

What do they start at? I live in Austin and I'm looking for something to do for the next year or so... :)

I'm also in the market for a new mac, and an employee discount would be nice, but I'd like to work for Apple for a few other reasons too - mostly that my video editing would fit nicely around a regular job, and I could use the extra money.

The best part of this being that Austin's a college town, and all the students are just getting ready to head off for the summer in the next couple of months. This does fun things to the local job market - there are periods from May-August where some companies have to pay $15/hr just for packers and pickers to have enough employees to get the work done.

A friend of mine did that when they first moved here, while they were waiting for their proper job at Freescale to come through.

I put in an application - just remains to see if they call me.

I'm curious to know how being an Apple employee affects posting on forums like this one. Obviously, anything you learn through work should be considered confidential. How does the company view posting in threads not related directly to your work?

Also, I read through the employee benefits pages, but they were fluffy - lacking specific details, like what discounts employees can get on machines and software. Do you know what they generally offer?
