Give us some sort of interface like an FTP client where we can actually see and directly manipulate the files that are stored on our iCloud space.

They need to do some serious fixing, iCloud is so limited and the implementation is a bit of a turd.

iTunes match seems to be even worse, which isn't an easy thing to do.

Hopefully by "expand", they mean "fix".

Apple needs to completely re-think photo management as a feature of iCloud. Photo Stream is a lukewarm start but at least shows a move toward aggregating content among users on the same Apple ID.

The major problem is organization.

Here's how I want it to work: Photos for iCloud would be iOS/Lion/web apps similar to the current apps but would work off a Pending > Folder model. All of your images from every device sit in pending until you assign them to a folder (or folders). When you assign an image to a folder from the Photos app on any device, it updates the folders on all of your devices.

It would also be great if you could link libraries with other Apple IDs and drag-and-drop folders and images between different users.

Seriously? DropBox is the easiest mode of backup I've seen. Install it and use it like a regular folder, and you're done.

Agree 100%. In fact, it's so easy to download, set up, and use, that it could not be any easier if Apple owned it. There's nothing to fix.

Third-party adoption of iCloud (or other cloud-based means of storing data) is already happening and is going to become enormously helpful. The apps that I use the most already tend to be apps that sync data across multiple devices.

Examples:

1. iBooks/Kindle keep track of what page you're on across multiple devices.

2. Downcast, which is a podcast feeder, is about to go cloud-based to keep feeds synced across multiple devices. You can start listening to a podcast on your iPad and then pick right up where you left off on your iPhone.

3. RunKeeper, which is a GPS-based running app, syncs run data across devices and also has a web app where you can look run data crunched various ways.

4. Grocery IQ syncs grocery lists across multiple devices.

5. Amazon app syncs wish lists from multiple devices back to your Amazon account.

Maybe I'm over reacting but please don't say Apple is slowly trying to make the move to having our computers/phones be dummy terminals like Google tries with Chrome. I might have to switch to Windows (if Windows hasn't done the same thing) if they end up something like that.

I like having my applications and my data on my computer. I don't mind a Cloud to synch it/keep backup, but I don't like the idea of having to have accessibility to the cloud to even use my computer (Not just for having to have wi-fi access but also that leaves a ton of power in who's ever hands you decide to keep all your data/applications on).

G a l l e r y

Expand it by KEEPING the MobileMe gallery!!! That has got to be the most used and best-liked MobileMe feature among my friends and family. It's the most convenient way of sharing edited photos and movies with friends and family.

They need to bring back iDisk.

People keep comparing iCloud to Dropbox. But Dropbox is a cloud drive. Right now iCloud does not has any competing feature.

Apple wants to sell hardware, to do that they need attractive native apps to draw people to the platform. Helping developers make better apps, in a way that provides a consistent experience across Apple's platforms helps with that goal.

I think if Apple turns iCloud in to a WebApp Platform/Store then it'll be to try and remove barriers to entry to Apple hardware and to try and keep developers happy to be building on Apple's Ecosystem.

Yeah but I'm not going to buy hardware that is only useful if I have to connect it to a server. There are so many things I could see wrong with that scenario. For one, what happens if you do something Apple perceives as bad. Now they can cut you off from everything, all your info, all your apps, and make your hardware a paper weight (talk to people who used G+ and apparently did something wrong and Google cut them off of all Google services... which also messed with them being able to use their Android phones).

YEah, maybe that's a small possibility, but I'm sorry, I just think that's putting a lot of power in who ever's hands you decide to trust if you go to a model where your computer is just a dummy terminal.

Right now, as is if Apple for some reason got offended by me at worst I couldn't connect to the cloud but I'd still have my info on my computer and could use the software installed on it.

With Google you're the product, with Apple you're the customer.
Apple customers aren't going to wear a solely closed system even iOS has the free for all that is web, along with the closed QA'ed and high value AppStore.
