umm... those have been the prices for the past several days. i think you meant why are the SSDs so cheap? if so, it's because of the $500 drop on the new ones.

Originally Apple had the base 1.6 80, then a 1.8 80, and then they had the top of the line 1.8 64. The 1.6 80 has now sold out leaving the other two in place.

i think you missed the small, yet vital detail that the 1.8 has the 80gig hard drive, not the 64.

You can option up the 80 gb hdd to the 1.8 for about $200 i think. The 1.6 and 80 hdd aren't stuck with each other, you can upgrade. The 1.6/80 and 1.8/64 are just the most common combinations.
