Me too! Got my 2.93 i7 with a 2tb drive! Thanks a lot Apple!

No dead pixels, no whine, no yellow tint. Just a perfect looking iMac.

Shame I didnt get any extra RAM, but I managed to snag 4gbs of eBay for $25. I'm having a good run of luck lately.

You should definately *knock on wood* now.

Mine arrived with an unexpected 8gb RAM and a 2 TB HD - Thanks for the early christmas present Apple :D

It was more than four years ago, but my (original, Core Duo) MacBook Pro turned up with a faster processor and double the amount of RAM I'd ordered. I phoned up to query, they said not to worry about it. I guess you always get the machine you order but they do nothing about removing build-to-order upgrades.

I've just ordered a refurbished iMac. I'm not expecting the same sort of luck again, but I've never been able to fault the machine they sent me last time.

So why all the unexpected surprises?

Is it because a customer installed the goodies and left them in or because Apple upgraded a few items to please the customer on a refurb?

It is just easier for Apple to leave them in then replace them

Who cares ultimately - on top of the £300+ saving by buying from teh refurb store I got £280 of extra goodies in mine which I wasn’t expecting and definitely could not have afforded, all in a working machine all covered by an Apple warranty!!

I think the extra bits are those the previous customer asked for in custom builds and either cancelled their order or returned their machines for whatever reason - As far as Apple are concerned these are extras belong to that machine. The refurb store does not accommodate customization and just quotes standard spec/pricing with any extras turning up as a bonus which the buyer isn’t going to complain about.

Imagine how complicated the refurb store would be is they listed all the models with all possible levels of customization - much easier this way!

OK, the refurbished are a great deal, a plus if you get extra Ram or a bigger hard drive....:)
BUT
I priced a 21.5" 3.2/1tb/5670 (MC509LL/A)

MacConnection is priced at $1349 (no tax & free S/H), $150 Rebate included...

Refurbished is $1269 plus $90 tax = $1359

Soooo, I pay $10 more for a refurbished to a new iMac from MacConnection...

Great Deals

My 27" i7 has : No yellowing, no grey bands, no dead pixels, no noisy HD.
Perfect cosmetic condition....purchased 4GB from OWC--no problems.
Saved $300 by going with a Refurb. I have purchased several refurbished Macs in the past and have yet to have any kind of problem.

3 months on...

3 months after buying a refurb 27" i5 my wifes machine has been great, no problems as yet, except a dodgy keyboard, can see no reason for that to change.

Pleased as punch, just wish i'd not been such a noob and paid full price for my i7 machine LOL

I put this RSS feed in my email everytime I'm looking to upgrade. You do have to be pretty quick when you get the notification because most things go quick.

BTW: I have a refurb 2010 27" imac i7 2.93 8 GB DDR3 1 TB ATi 5750 and I love it. No problems with it.

We have been buying refurbs ever since switching to Macs about 3 years ago and have never had a problem with any of them. Great way to save money and get a great machine. Especially since the warranty is the same.

Explain to us how that works please. Do you get auto notifications when the refurb store has new stock to sell?

In Mail click "File"
Click "Add RSS Feed"
Select "Specify the URL for a feed" and past that feed in there
Select "Show in Inbox" if you want it to go to your inbox, otherwise it will just be on the sidebar
Click "Add" and you're done

When new stock is added you will be notified.

Good info. Will it work in any email program, such as Yahoo, or does it have to be apples mail program?

My refurb Mac turned up two working days after I ordered it and is perfect in every detail. No build-to-order bonuses, but since it's the lowest end iMac the only thing that could conceivably have been left in was a memory upgrade.

I also suddenly realised that a couple of years ago I used the refurb store to obtain a first generation iPod Touch. That also was perfect, without dents, scratches, dead or lit pixels. And is still running well.

Not So Lucky Here

I just received my 27 inch i5 Quadcore Refurb.

When I took it out of the box, the corner of the metal base was actually bent and severely damaged. This computer had to have been dropped hard.

Interestingly, there is NO damage to the box whatsoever!

I cannot imagine how or why Apple would let this machine ship.

So it will go back.

Looking at buying a Refurbed 21.5...
Trying to decide between the i3, 3.06, 500gb, 4670 graphics
OR
i3, 3.2, 1tb, & 5670 Graphics...

Difference in price for higher 21.5 is $250:eek:

My question is this...
Is it worth it to spend an extra $250 for the 3.2, 1tb & 5670 graphics???

Also can you get the wired keyboard intead of the wireless?_____
Many Thanks,
Bob

Wow. That's hard to believe they let that one slip. Fortunately the people at Apple are always easy to deal with. Sucks to have to go through the gag of returning and waiting again though.

All those people with their refurbished machines. Sometimes I wonder why Apple (The Netherlands) doesn't provide refurbished products.

Same here with the Singapore Apple store. They are only selling the 21.5'' C2D, only 1. Hopefully this means that Apple products selling in Singapore are generally in good condition. That's why few people are returning the products. :D

I was going to buy from Mcconnection until I looked into their return policy. For any reason...there is a 20% restocking fee, even if the box is never opened. If it is broken when you receive it, you have to return to Macconnection for them to repair it, and you can't take it to the apple store for a swap out.

That reason alone would make me more inclined to buy a refurb from apple, than a new from Macconnection.

Considering that Macconnection charges no sales tax in my State, a new Imac from them comes in at about the same price as a refurb from Apple. The difference is what your options are after receiving the Imac. If you receive a unit that needs repair, the Apple store will swap it out for a new one for you. Macconnection will require you send it to them and after they inspect it, they have the option of replacingor repairing it. After 15 days, you then have to take it to an Apple authorized repair center.
Personally, I would like the option of being able to drive to the nearest Apple store and having a defective Imac swapped out.
To me, an Apple refurb is as good as a new one.

Not saying that Macconnection isn't good, but I just do not like an automatic 20% restocking fee if I buy, receive, and decide to return without even opening the box. I also don't like having to ship a defective Imac back to them and play the waiting game to possibly maybe receive a new one.

I originally placed an order for a new CTO last wednesday, but cancelled it minutes later as they said it would arrive after Christmas.

Sunday afternoon I saw a refurb 27" i7 4GB Ram SSD etc...

It arrived Tuesday morning!

With an extra 4GB RAM = 8GB!!! Thanks!

(wish it had an extra HDD in there - Apple originally said I could take it to the store and the Genius will add one (for a fee) now I have it, they said they can't)

Oh well, have added a FW800 drive to it (but wish I could put one inside to keep things tidy)

This thing is immaculate - no scratches, no dents, this thing is pristine, no faults. The only time the fans whirr a bit is when I am doing heavy importing in iMovie...
