On the 4s you paint the one in the audio jack with white out and replace the power connector strip with a piece of white paper. Problem solved !!

water-resistant ...iOS 7.1 will be waterproof ;O)

Due to a non-disclosure I electronically signed, I can neither confirm nor deny I am a developer and I can neither confirm nor deny iOS 7.1 is not waterproof.

I can confirm I need a bag of rice if anyone has one? Last time I test something I read on macrumors.

Wait I thought iOS 7 was waterproof?

It is waterproof, wind, fire, etc. Nothing happens to iOS7, the hardware that carries it in the other hand….

Also, that joke should be old by now :p

nope

Can I kill an iMac that's covered by AppleCare warranty then get a replacement? The problem is that my mom's iMac's hard drive has failed twice within 6 months, and the computer has been having other weird problems like Mavericks not installing properly, but Apple refuses to offer a replacement. I think the hard drive is on its way to death once again. They'll keep fixing the individual problems on that lemon until it's out of warranty.
Depends on your state and lemon laws in that state.....More than 3 issues during the warranty period in California classifies it as a lemon under California laws and they would be required to replace it on the 4th issue.

I agree about adding waterproofing, but

The reason smartphones are fragile is because it is still a developing technology that has to keep getting better, faster. Unlike car electronics that absolutely have to be able to handle extreme temperatures and such, not being the best or fastest is the trde-off.

Anyone recall the G5 tower that had the first/fastest 2.5GHz top-end model that had to be liquid cooled because it ran so hot (2004)?

I disagree, Sony makes freeze proof, crush proof, water proof (to a depth of about 20 meters), drop proof cameras with touch screens. (By the way, the touch screen cannot work while submersed in water, but it doesn't get damaged), so there is NO reason that Apple and other phone manufacturer's can't do the same with Smart Phones.

You are right. I know of people who refuse to buy a phone because they are so easy damaged by water.

Did any of you see the Sony ad where their tablet is working with the display on inside an aquarium. Sony can do it. Apple can't.

There are some simply ways to make a phone or tablet water proof. One way is to dip the circuits parts in some kind of plastic and they have some god and thin materials for this now. But the big thing is that others are already doing this.

I wonder if their upcoming iWatch will be water resistant? If you have to take the watch off to wash your hands it is the 100% certain FAIL.

Dip the circuit in some kind of plastic? lol. Do you know about heat? The system would simply overheat if something was covering it like a plastic. There are solutions, but they are not as simple as you think, as it could be ruined by many factors like heat, water it self, friction, and etc.

Instead of spending time and money on moisture sensors and ticked off customers, Apple could just spend the $ producing phones with waterproof coatings and have another selling point and happier customers.

The moment Apple says that everyone will start swimming with iPhones in their swim suits.

Although Apple should do it, just not say it.

Time to send my iPhone 5 through the wash and send it in :D

Nope.

It still has to power on and have no signs of internal liquid.

All they did was change the rule so that tripped LCI aren't an automatic refusal

So water damage is OK for trade-in, but not OK for warranty repair at the Genius Bar. This is going to be fun!

Again, water damage is not okay for either. But tripped LCI doesn't necessarily equal damage.

This is a preempt before a move like with the 3G when they got sued cause high humidity could trip the sensors. They have better sensors now but it won't stop someone from trying a similar move

Actually, the bag of rice thing works. My wife dropped her almost new iPhone in the toilet (don't ask) and we put it in a baggie with rice. It took a couple of days before it was 100% functional again, but now it seems fine.

I'm sure the sensors are triggered, but since it seems to be completely working now, It's nice to know that I should be able to trade it in. Not that I would likely do that because I can get better prices on Craig's list or eBay.

Not saying that the rice doesn't work but my wife's iPhone also went for a toilet swim and after a couple of days of simply air-drying it was also fully functional.
