I hate contracts because people do not understand them. Subsidized pricing lowers the value of the equipment to the point where they feel entitled to replace it for any model at any time. Then when they treat their equipment like crap and break it they complain that they should get a free device (and often an upgrade) because they are still under contract. I say no contracts. Pay full price or go with out! Rabble rabble rabble!
Oh my. That's quite a broad statement. I doubt many people are the way you say they are. I for one am not. And while I'm not a contract lover, it makes it easier for me to afford an iPhone upfront. I don't see it as devaluing the product just because the upfront costs are lower. Anyone with a half a brain can see they are paying for the phone full price eventually.

Come on... It's a greedy company making great products. No less, no more.

Huh? That's a pretty powerful statement. Can you back it up? And can you give us an example of a non greedy company making great products? Look forward to hearing your explanation which I think you are obligated to give if you want to have any credibility. Thanks in advance.

I had the iPhone on launch day, and it was exciting, but it was obvious how long it had to go before it was a truly great product. So many things were missing -- things other phones already had at the time. The lack of 3G made the mobile web almost unusably slow. No GPS receiver made maps less useful. Couldn't sync with Exchange. Super slow CPU.
Yeah and "Other Phones" didn't have a full and large keyless screen with the REAL internet, but rather a dumbed down experience. 3G didn't matter since the web on those other "Smart" phones sucked so bad. I think the iPhone overall offered much more and offered a far better experience than any other phone on the market. You're being a bit nitpicky, especially based on what was currently out at the time.

still a great looking phone. some of the competitors trying to keep up around that time couldn't say the same.

A broad statement? Your evidence is a sample size of one. Mine is made from nearly two decades in the telecom industry. People are better now, it's true, but while many shifted their entitlement to the cost of service there still many who don't understand the function of the contract.

Realistically though I'm old and bitter. I come from a time where one person misinformed is one to many.

$599 on 2 year contract, lol. People gasp at $199 on 2 year contract these days.

I think most companies are making it harder to get it at that pricing and are trying to force the AT&T Next or similar model. It's like they're selling iPhones through Rent-A-Center.

OK, if that is how you want to look at it. They are doing a great job, setting a great standard and we could use more companies just like them creating products for consumers.

So if you were trying to say something bad about them, I don't think you're going to get much traction. They are big, they make mistakes, but their products are good and they put quality high on their list of business priorities. I'm not seeing the problem with them making money while doing it. They don't make money if people don't open their wallets to buy their items. It's not like roving bands of greedy Apple employees are breaking into your house at night and stealing your cheerios.

I still have my original. I actually haven't sold or traded any of my models in. No good reason why I haven't but just haven't.

Not only did Apple release the iPhone eight years ago today... my mom released me from the womb sixteen years ago today.

I guess you could say June 29 is a monumental date in history. :p
