I upgraded and it works fine. The hdd problem is indeed resolved and the system is now happily connecting 1 iMac, 3 playstation 3s, 2 iPhones, 2 MacMinis, 1 MBP, 1 MBA, 1 HP notebook, 1 ASUS netbook, 2 Philips televisions, 4 iPads and 1 Arduino Wifi card. All of these connect at the first try.
To me it seems like a decent enough product after the update to 7.2.2.

I have a 5th Generation Airport Extreme the one before the tall one. I never got an update on my MacBook Pro Retina (2012). I went to the Airport Utility app on my iPad (3rd Generation) and under Version it states:

Current Firmware 7.6.4 is up to date. Is this 7.7.2 update only for the latest tall AirPort Extreme and Time Capsules?

Just purchased an Airport Extreme after a LONG HARD run with Linksys networking hardware. Ive owned a WRT54G w/ a wireless USB stick, then another upgraded USB stick w/ a WRT160N. After connectivity problems with this router..... I am done w/ Linksys.

After the initial set up, I updated to the most recent firmware & ran into an upload problem. Running a SpeedTest, the DL speed was up to par @ 50mbps, but the Upload was literally next to zero. Did a hard reset on both my ISP's modem & AE, & it's been smooth sailing ever since. Just wish I had a device that was AC capable to take advantage of the extra horsepower.
Happy buyer here :)

Yep... only for the new tower models.

Everything was working fine for my Airport Extreme AC until this morning, now it doesn't connect to the internet.
It is running the latest firmware 7.7.2.
Anyone else having issues? Or could this be a hardware problem?

Thanks

UPDATE:
I used my old Airport Extreme to check my ISP and Modem and they are working fine.
Set up the new AC to extend the network and it is working.
Very strange.
