I agree -- Aperture 4 is LONG overdue. I'm sort of wedded to Aperture at this point, but it's sluggish and buggy and definitely could deserve some love from Apple....

Yes but you never know what they do with Aperture 4, if they will do it. See what they did to FCP X. Maybe it's better not to update to anything at this point.

In terms of performance, FCP X was a big step forward. If that happened to Aperture, nobody would complain.

The biggest bug with Aperture is that it exists.

Seriously... You're wasting your time using Aperture over Lightroom.

Why?

Next maybe you will argue that "red" is a better color than "blue" and people are idiots for liking blue.

This was better. Isn't it funny how some people insist on dictating. Why do they do that? why can't they accept somebody else likes something they do not. Or doesn't work for them.

Not really. Lightroom's interface and entire method of getting things done is simply horrible.

Lightroom feels like some old dark Windows interface on OS X. Plus it's horribly laid out. Feels like a half hearted attempt.

Seems to be the preferred choice throughout the professional photographer community though.

One thing is for certain - Adobe will always make Lightroom.
Apple can abandon Aperture at any point.

Thats one thing I've noticed a lot from Apple. They're very wasteful. They make great software, support it for several years then just abandon it with usually no replacement. Or, downgrade it. Why make it to begin with to ditch it 2 - 4 years later.

Only Apple fanboys who revere anything made by Apple and condemn anything that's not will say Lightroom is "terrible." Most people who use both agree Lightroom takes the edge.

Not really. Capture One is still very popular, especially among pros using something more than a DSLR. Aperture has some very high profile users. Bibble (now After Shot Pro) has its fans among those that want incredibly fast RAW processing. DxO Optics Pro has its fans.

If everyone just blindly supported the 'top dog' regardless of their needs you'd end up with a Windows-like scenario.

I never used Aperture but did quite like Capture One. I use Lightroom but think it has a very awkward workflow and, like most things Adobe, seems overwrought.

Still, Apple's treatment of pros has been dire recently. Pros need roadmaps to plan future purchases not sudden surprises.

Snow Leopard?

Why don't people just upgrade to Lion? Mounatain Lion is coming soon anyway. If Apple want's to persuade users to update, they should turn their cheek on users of outdated systems. Of course this is just my evil idea. :D

Must be a minor bug, only 672MB what a ***** joke.

Thought updates were going to start being smaller?

Through the App Store this update was 22+MBytes. I have no idea where the 672 figure originated.

I can't speak for others but I will always have the ability to dual boot between Snow Leopard and Lion.....I have at least one app that is an old PowerPC app that I run under Rosetta. Lion has been sort of buggy and slow for me as well. As always, YMMV.

This is pretty much the only bug I'm aware I kept running into in Aperture. (the external edits not being reflected in the previews thing)

I love Aperture, and tried Lightroom out comprehensively - loved that too. Also tried Capture One Pro.. They all do much the same stuff its insane to say people should be using one over the other. It's really about how one responds to the features, interfaces and possible workflows. I'm so efficient at doing what I do now in Aperture I'd have to find totally new ways to do the same things in LR and I prefer the way folders, metadata etc are handled in Aperture.

Everyone's going to like different approaches to single tasks.
