I updated mine. It didn't reboot. I unplugged it and replugged it, and now I get an iTunes logo with a USB cable on screen.
What the hell do I do?
Did it even come with a USB cable? I can't remember!
You've always been able to stream music from your iTunes library. Now you can stream it from iTunes match. I don't think you can store any music on the device like you maybe could with the first one.
The ATV2 specifically requires the not-so-common micro-USB cable...You don't have any extra USB cables laying around, and no other devices that us USB you could just borrow the cable from for a short bit?

I have no need for 1080p on my 720p TV, and I'm not upgrading until Apple makes a TV.![]()

can you play iTunes extras and LP with this new update?
So not-common, every cell phone in the EU uses them for charging.
My question exactly. I'd even be happy if this was just offered on the new AppleTV (given that I'll probably upgrade to that for the 1080p anyway).can you play iTunes extras and LP with this new update?
Anyone?
Well you held out for the wrong reason then. You never had to use Airplay. The second generation Apple TV puts music, movies, tv shows, photos, iTunes U, podcasts, and any other content that's in your iTunes library under "Computers" and it is shared to the Apple TV using the Home Sharing feature.
Airplay is an option but it has never been required to get your music in your iTunes Library on the Apple TV. Also, the Music icon is for iTunes Match which is another way to get your music. The main benefit with iTunes Match on the Apple TV, you don't need an iOS device or a computer running iTunes.

As mentioned earlier, you'll need a micro-USB cable to connect it to your computer/iTunes.
Restoring it will automatically install the latest version (5.0) as well.
Any direct download links?
The fact that Netflix can now bill through iTunes is just further evidence that an "app store" is on its way. More content options, here we come.
I tried. I went and purchased a cable. Still didn't work. iTunes couldn't restore due to an error (1611) and (21).
Going to try again tomorrow. If it fails. Apple will repair it. Which I hope means it will be a replacement![]()
