Sounds like we are being beta testers for them? 🤔
It sure sounds like more and more companies are pushing their V&V out to have their customers perform the work.
BSIs are hotfixes that aim to bring urgent security fixes to as many people as possible, as fast as possible. In these scenarios they don't have time to do full test suites like normal software updates, and that's why a removal feature was offered in case unforeseen bug happens.

And no, customers are not being treated as beta testers. Unless you want to be one by enrolling in the Beta Software Program.

OK. The article says:

Background Security Improvements can be installed in the Privacy and Security section of the Settings app. Scroll down, and then select the Install option to install the update. If Automatically Install is toggled on, BSIs will be automatically installed when they come out.

In Privacy and Security auto install is on but it didn't install. I did find 26.3.1(a) there however and it wwas available to install. Kind of strange you need to go to P&S to get the update.

Yes, the same here, which kind of defeats the whole “Background update” idea, since it still requires a manual installation from a place most users hardly ever visit. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sorry. No update available here. 26.3.1 Tahoe on M4 MBA.

Perhaps only for the Macs that are still based on Intel?

Do you mean iOS or macOS?

Under macOS I honestly see no updates for this one. Or you must explain me like I am 5?
Same for both. It should show up if you’re on 26.3.1.

Oh man! What a dork at work! Seriously! I've found it now! See attachment. I mean, something really hidden by Apple. Why didn't anyone tell me that?

Agreed. I dont plan on installing it. I plan on waiting for 26.3.2 or 26.4 to come out.

What exactly is the point of so carefully crafting your iOS update experience? You could just leave it alone and it would update itself. Folks poking around right after this Macrumors article of course have to hunt for it, but only because it hasn’t installed yet. It probably will tonight.
