What exactly determines which headphones/earphones get the W1 chip vs H1 chip?

New devices use the H1.

These are just re-releases of headphones from the original W1 era.

I got these headphones super cheap recently as part of a promotion, and it bugs the CRAP out of me that it charges with Micro USB. Now, I have a phone with Lightning, a laptop with USB-C, and headphones with Micro USB. It's a freaking NIGHTMARE to charge these things. Why on Earth won't Apple just bring everything to USB-C already?? For goodness sake, please just let these old connectors die!

The least I’ve gone to bed with it overnight charged is 20% but it’s usually 25-30% still

believe it or not, we all use our phones more or even less than each other - some of us, myself included, need more battery life

I know but this year brought the biggest battery life improvements to iPhone, ever. Extra weight too. I don’t mind it but the weight plus a battery case is likely pretty crazy

Using one measure for which we have official specs, the battery life for video playback, we get:

• iPhone X: 13 h
• iPhone Xs: 14 h
• iPhone 11 Pro: 18 h
  
  
• iPhone Xs + Apple battery case: 25 h

If people consider the four extra hours the 11 Pro offers as one of the main reasons to upgrade to it from the Xs (the other being the camera system), wouldn't an extra eleven hours be worth something as well (assuming that an iPhone 11 Pro battery case adds the same amount of extra hours to it)? Or phrased differently, if people are accustomed to those 25 hours (Xs + battery case), would they want to go back to 'only' 18 h?

If they update the electronics in any way, the W1 will likely be replaced by the H1. If they only change the colours, it won't be.

Why are the Studio 3 still the only Apple product that uses micro-USB to charge? Ugh.

Whoever made that decision is a weirdo. There’s no excuse for deciding to use this I/O.
