scanning

What's the word on the Canon drivers I wonder? Scanning has been an absolute catastrophe since I got my pro & Leopard. Have had to rely on image capture. I guess I'll look at the support pages...

hp psc 1210xi all-in-one remains DOA

There is no excuse for Apple not re-writing the drivers in snow leopard to handle my all-in-one printer/fax/scanner. Now we know why the software update was so cheap, the printer manufacturers paid to force us all to buy new printers. If HP or somebody doesn't write me a driver soon, I'll never deal with HP ever again.

Yea, HP sucks. hard. Their printer software and drivers are an after-thought. Even in Micro$oft Windows. I replaced my parent's HP all-in-one with an Epson Workforce 600 and the result was so, soo good. Better software, better printing, better scanning. Though they are still using Leopard, but that will probably change to Snow Leopard when I visit for the holidays :)

HP and Apple are the masters of that.

Apple today released a pair of Snow Leopard printer driver updates, bringing additional compatibility for printers and multifunction devices from Epson and Lexmark.

- Epson Printer Drivers v2.2 for Mac OS X v10.6.1 (546 MB)
- Lexmark Printer Drivers v2.2 for Mac OS X v10.6 (121 MB)

A full list of Snow Leopard printer drivers and compatibility is available on Apple's support pages.

This is all very well and good, but the lexmark printer software crashes on startup. So while I can print, I still can't scan. I wish Lexmark/apple sort this out. Its only since snow leopard as on leopard it worked fine.

Sigh.

I thought it was only me ;^)

I've been OK until 10.6.2 with an LiDE 200. Canon says the drivers (now 3
months old) are current and work with SL, and Apple says everything is
current. Yet I can't scan after a wake-from-sleep cycle.

My theory is that this scanner, since it gets its power from the USB port, just
loses track of the connection, and the driver doesn't compensate. I wonder
if a scanner with its own power cord would make a difference?

I'm also using VueScan - are you using this to scan, or relying on just the
supplied Canon software, or Image Capture?

well it appears they finally got some utilities working with epson 1280, but they are very, very limited. supplies shows one bar for black ink, and one for color, instead of having every color separately. better than nothing, but still worthless.

STOP THE PRESS!

Ever so newsworthy...

If you lost the some of the functionality of your printer when moving to snow leopard, then this is indeed newsworthy.

My RX500 is now working much better than it was with the horrible Gutenprint drivers, or the patched Epson ones.

I can create PDF's out of Word again, and I have all of my print options back when I print from applications.

I had been thinking I was going to have to replace my perfectly fine All-in-one printer, just because of driver issues.

Kudos to Epson for releasing new drivers for their older printers...

Good news indeed

I can finally see the ink levels in my Epson R280 hooked up to my Airport Extreme. Previously I had to move the cable over to my iMac in order to see which ink cartridge(s) needed replacing. Now I can get the information over the network connection to the printer - woohoo.

definitely strange

I did forget to mention that my machine is the MX700 all in one. I havn't paid attention to the relationship to sleep mode, but I think I will.

The thing that gets me is that there is no issue at all with printing. Just scanning. I can try like half a dozen times, then it will finally scan. But then it won't scan again no matter how many times I try. So yeah, for scanning I've just been using image capture. I have heard good things about VueScan, but I havn't got around to giving it a shot yet.

I guess I just need to do the upgrade to SL an find out. Can't be too much worse than it is back here in leopard.

Lexmark X4650; Printer software now crashes on startup and I can't even bloody print because it now reports that 'the colour table is missing'. Arrrgh! I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the old driver, but it's still broken!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: (yes, I do need this many grumpy faces. Here's one more for good measure.)

Still only a gutenprint driver for the R1800, guess i'll be sticking with 10.5.8.
Thought i'd have been able to upgrade by now without losing functionality, pretty dissapointed in :apple:'s speed on this.

I hope this ends giving the invalid command messages my Lexmark Optra R keeps printing. Some people have PC around for games, I have it for printing.

:mad::mad: <- following Ryan's lead and adding this.

Still no C500N support from Lexmark.

At least someone figured out how to use the Leopard drivers and fix the permission issue. Hopefully, I can use it for another year.

I thought macs DIDN'T need any drivers...

I thought macs DIDN'T need any drivers unlike windows..... thats what all the old ads say....

heh, yeah, I didn't see that! Guess I'll just stay put then! :(

New Epson Driver does not work for Epson R800

i installed the new epson driver and the new driver for the Epson R800 works but does not create colours that match my monitor. So, I reverted to the driver from Epson and the prints are fine again. I would recommend testing the new driver as it may be best to stay with the driver from Epson.:)

I just want to say

This is the kind of crap Microsoft pulled with Vista -- massive incompatibility. Apple had no right to ship Snow Leopard knowing it would break many printers. It's irresponsible. I hope my scanner is better after the update.

massive?

it's a handful of printer drivers. I mean this is the first type of widespread incompatibility I've heard about and it's not even that widespread. Some of the issues were there from Leopard, like, mine, so I'm not sure where you're coming from.
