Whoa, already?

I'm quite new to macs. Is this normal for such a quick release?

No, this is fast.

Semi-surprised that they went with mountain lion, as a mountain lion is a puma, which they used for 10.1. Lion needs a SL-style update way more than leopard ever did, so I'm not complaining.

Prank?

Seriously, this is so unexpected.
#1 - We haven't ever heard so much as a rumor about this.
#2 - Apple didn't bother holding a press event.

In any event, given I'm in the dev program, I'm seriously considering downloading this. While one could say "Hey! That's not stable enough to install on your personal computer!", I say the same thing about Lion. Bugs galore and they fill like releasing the next big version before they've ironed them out.

This is great! I've been wondering when this stuff would make it to the Mac.

Wow, that sounds nice, I can't believe I use a mac at home as my primary pc, 5 years ago I didn't think I'd ever say that. I see a Macbook air in my future, bye bye Hp Pavilion.

"Out of the box, OS X Mountain Lion only runs apps from the Mac App Store..."

Hmm, we can see where this is going...

I didn't expect that

Dito on that. Caught be completely by surprise. All these rumors about iPad 3 and not a single one on OSX 10.8.

But, I did sort of expect them to speed up the development cycle on OSX, but to come this so soon is earlier than I expected.

As someone that runs 100's of dual boot macs in a University, I find the frequency of OS versions really tiresome.

Personally it looks decent, I am still on snow leopard though haven't felt the need at all to move to lion.

I hope it's not all just more iOS integration. I'm hoping for at least a more functional version of Spaces and Expose, and a throwback to Save As. Lion has made me feel like I can no longer truly multitask, and it's a shame because everything was working pretty well before. Now it feels like I have to work around the OS.

I bet you'll need to soon enough. I agree with your assessment though.
