👍 Sounds like you know what you're doing. The post was aimed at those who don't.

It happens every year that someone tries the beta and finds themselves cornered because some critical work/school app doesn't work, or they can't easily roll back or don't have the technical expertise to undo the upgrade. Main point to be made here is that it's a beta, not an advance way to get the new features before everyone else - especially the early public betas.

It's all fun and games until your banking app doesn't work on the beta!

Isn't it doable by just creating a new volume in an APFS container and then installing over there?

The only thing is, the firmware is part of the beta. So you're installing beta firmware on the Mac even if you use a second APFS container.

It's probably fine, but if that's your one and only Mac that you rely on, it's risky.

Hi, does someone test macos sequoia public beta and iphone mirroring working in EU countries?

Anyone seeing anything good or bad with VS Code, Docker Desktop, Onedrive, Teams, or Zoom?

I have three Macs and run beta stuff on a separate volume on one of them, so it's not a big deal, but it's more fun to play with the public beta when my main apps work.

Anyone running the public beta - with iPhone screen sharing what happens if it needs Face ID, can you use Touch ID on the Mac or have you actually got to go and physically access the phone. If it's the latter it makes the thing a bit useless for me.

Q: "I only have one Mac and it's critical for me because I use it for school/work and I don't have a backup Mac. Is it safe to install the public beta?"

A: NO.

Q:"But it has cool new stuff that I want?"

A: NO.

Q:"But iPhone mirroring...?"

A: NO.

Q:" But I have a backup from 6-months ago..."

A: NO.

Q" But I have a backup from last night..."

A: NO. No, no, no, no, no.

So I realised I had a Thunderbolt SSD in the drawer so decided to install the Public Beta on one of the Mac Studios. My main reason was to look at iPhone mirroring, only to realise you have to have iOS18 on the iPhone for it to work !

So tempted to install this to try out the phone mirroring. But I'm also scared it'll break World of Warcraft. I reckon I'll just make a time machine backup and risk it for the biscuit. I have a backup machine if it all goes wrong.

iPhone mirroring is a bit of a joke - it works via Bluetooth so if your phone is in another room of your house the chances are it won't connect...
The best I can get is approximately 20' away... :(

I'm honestly not sure what is the benefit of iPhone mirroring. Back in my Windows Phone and Android days, I mirrored the phone to get calls and texts on my laptop, but this works already without mirroring. I can't think of any phone apps that I'd like to run on my Mac.

For starters it provides another way to multitask applications. If you have iPhone display showing as a fixed resolution for some portion of your desktops screen it allows one to have a superior way to use some common apps in place of the Mac application. Take Music for example, you have a choice of a large window interface or the very small miniplayer. The iPhone allow you to see a much more useful interface for using Music while taking up far less screen. Classical is a variation of that only exists currently for iPhone and iPad more recently. Anyone with a Mac knows that you have to specifically search for Apple Classical to arrive at its interface. So using the iPhone mirroring presents more choices on how to setup your desktop screen using the iPhone as a 2nd ARM computing device with different app interfaces at the same time on your Mac desktop.
