Everything updated but no option to select the preferred hub :/ Anyone else missing it?

I really want to decide which is a homekit hub as one of my ATVs it loves to pick has issues with being a hub for some reason, HomeKit just becomes unreliable. I miss being able to disable that. This update adds that ability back. But my Apple TV 4K is taking over 30min to download this and refuses to on Ethernet (update bug is still there where it’ll say it’s not available to download when Ethernet is plugged in). Funnily the oldest, an HD, updated in 5 min on WiFi.
All throughout tvOS 18 beta, I had difficulties updating Apple TV 4K. It would either never finish downloading, or after downloading it would not move past the “Preparing” screen. I’d leave it for hours, but it never finished. I even did a complete wipe of the Apple TV, and the problem persisted. Usually the update would work if I powered cycled the Apple TV. For the RC it took three attempts.

There’s a Reddit thread for the betas that said if you remove your HomePods from the home app then it’ll show up. After that add the HomePods back and it’ll still be there. Dumb bug. I really hate how HomeKit has zero control over what happens when things don’t just work. It’s not very magical when that happens.

If the iPhone 15 with 6GB RAM and A16 doesn't support Apple Intelligence, why you were holding hope that the HomePod would support it?

It's true, no one should have expected it.

But with Amazon rumored to be about to release a GPT based voice upgrade to Alexa, I would love to see Apple make it available on more devices next year.

We all know the problem with Siri isn't usually hearing and understanding the input, it's the fact that it has been dumb as rocks what to do with it. We also know that older iPhones support GPT assistants just fine because we've been using ChatGPT for a year.

So yeah they are at least gating access to the expensive server resources by device for now. But if they really care about the HomePod, they really need to do this.

I unplugged my Minis because they were just too buggy and crappy and not worth the hassle. But if adding Siri to other rooms were something I actually wanted to do, I might plug them back in.

Right now that sounds ridiculous. Who wants more useless Siri?

Right, it requires 8GB RAM minimum and I think a certain CPU minimum (in terms of neural engine cores, etc).

Most local AI is resource intensive.

Maybe some future model.

OG Homepod: Finally they seems to have fixed most the bugs related to gapless Dolby Atmos albums where the next track starts playing in Stereo, they seem to also have fixed the issue where the next track in album starts playing individually on Homepods setup in Stereo pair.

Got HomePod mini and Handoff from HomePod to iPhone 12 running iOS 18. Settings all correct, has the process changed at all?

Both sets of OG and mini updated to HPsoftware 18 but since then I get no sound of any of them :(
edit: mini started working again after force restarting all my devices. Still no luck with the OG though; I can restart them but no sound comes out of it
I have a pair of OG HomePods hooked up to the Apple TV. Have to admit that I’m concerned about updating the HomePods and the Apple TV after reading your post. Did you get the situation sorted out?

So still no EQ, not even a basic one? Like more treble please? Still no hearing accommodations? Still can't be set to automatically reduce the bass after 9pm? No L-R balance setup when owning a pair?

For being a smart speaker this thing has so much potential but is still so dumb.

Literally took 6 hours to finish updating my fleet of HomePods which is kinda ridiculous.
Literally went quick for me - which was unusual to say the least. 2 OG HomePods, 2 HomePod minis, and 3 Apple TVs. I can’t explain it.

It's funny. Some of you like to think you're being very clever with absurd posts. But you're only showing your desire to hate and demonstrate ignorance.

I have multiple devices that can act as a HomeKit hub. Up until this update, the choice of which device to use as a hub was up to Apple's algorithm, whatever that may be. Sometimes it chooses a device which isn't the best one to use as a hub. To force a change, I have to disconnect all the potential hubs and the carefully plug them in to force the desired device to be the hub. Some of the plugs are in hard to reach areas, so I have to add multiple HomeKit plugs to power off the devices remotely. This happens not infrequently.

With the new feature of being able to select with device I want to be the hub, my life became easier and I can now remove the HomeKit plugs.

So, for me, this update is really welcome. You aren't as clever as you think you are.
I have a similar annoyance. I have 3 WiFi networks - the main network, a side network for gaming, and the router provided by my internet provider. I have 2 OG HomePods that are paired and are the speakers for an Apple TV / TV. They work great BUT whenever the HomePods reboot they always connect to different networks! Which means I then power off the 2 networks I don’t want them on, leaving the main network on for them to connect to. Frustrating.
