Too bad they didn’t Apple emoji updates or make iMessage automatically show the emoji set based on the iOS version or sms version you were texting so they didn’t get square boxes.

Will be updating my iPad Air and iPhone 6 when I get home.
Apple was hoping we would all go out and buy new devices but that didn’t happen. Use my iPad Air several hours a week because there’s nothing wrong with it.
Wondering if my Apple TV 3rd Gen will get an update? iOS 15 broke connectivity of airplay.

Good on Apple for providing another security update for iOS devices as old as the iPhone 5S. I know a few people who still have iPhone 6's in semi regular use, so it's good to see a security hole patched up for them.

Honestly this sets apple above the rest. Years of updates. My aunties are upgrading their phones now as they cannot get the latest updates. I'm talking about a 5S and 6. The phones have served them well. My auntie has upgraded from the 6 to the 13 which is a massive jump.

1. What about our iPhone 4's??!!

2. I'm currently updating my iPod touch 6G. Yay!

Oops! Spoke too soon. Just got the weirdest "Reinstall iOS" message, with choices including using a .ipsw option, erase and install, or install from Apple's servers. It did that in the midst of the regular software update.

Ah, just figured out what happened. Bizarrely, iMazing launched in the middle of the upgrade. Bad form, iMazing. I had set devices in it to NOT sync automatically when connected. It shouldn't interrupt the installation process -- and reboot my IPT. In fact, it was trying to restore my iPod Touch -- without my approval. Wow! It's an amazing app (pun intended) and have made good use of it for many years. May need to send them an inquiry, letter of concern, about this, however...

3. Our iPad Air 2 is running fine on iOS 15.6.1. The only issue -- and it's a big one -- arose when we first upgraded to iOS 15 months ago. Lost TWO full hours of battery life.

4. My iPhone SE seems to be OK, so far, on iOS 15.6.1.

Still, a question remains...

If someone hasn't or can't update their OS, can these security holes affect:

a. updating apps?

b. updating podcasts?

c. using mail?

d. news apps?
e. running apps that fetch data from servers? E.g., astro apps that retrieve updates for comets, satellites, and asteroids?
Or, do they only matter when going out into the Wild, Whacky, Wilderness (www)?

If the update does not appear available on my "very old" iPad, then it's not available for me correct? ;)

Still rocking with my iPhone 4S as my fish clock. But I’m staying on iOS 8.4.1 and can still side load my apps. :p

I mentioned this in another forum, but Tim Cook (like Steve Jobs before him) maintains a public email address.

If you are running an older operating system for a good reason (like a Mac Pro owner using Mojave while waiting for the Apple Silicon Mac Pro) and have security and privacy concerns given the recent breach, a message to Mr. Cook can't hurt. His commitment to security and privacy of Apple products is entirely appropriate and requests that the company address products that might have slipped through the cracks (like Mojave) can only help Apple and its customers.

Mr. Cook (or, more likely, his staff) and be reached at tcook@apple.com.

I'm still using my iPhone 6 I bought Nov 2014, my first smart phone :)

Thought I might have to get the 14 when it comes out, I'm starting to lose some apps that don't support iOS 12.* anymore (mainly fast food apps though). The speed of the phone however is still fine, battery is fine (though I had it replaced when they were running that $25 deal).

Only significant issue is recently something must have changed on ATT's email servers, I can't connect using the Mail app (oddly though this works on an old iPad mini running the same iOS 12). Sometimes I can login to mail thru Safari, but it always breaks in week or two after that and forces me to update my password. On MacOS (latest) or Windows there is no issue logging in. This email snafu may be the thing that really forces me to get a new phone.

Apple should allow all devices on iOS 12 to install the security update, even if they are capable of a newer OS. There's lots of older devices which benefit from the much lighter iOS 12 operating system. Really legislation (there's no other way) should be introduced to force OS publishers to provide security updates to all devices and not force "OS upgrades" which are often not an upgrade.
