Diary of my iPhone 16.6 upgrade experience:

  • I read the news article on here.
  • I checked for new update and it showed up.
  • I tapped install.
  • It asked for my password.
  • It then requested the update from Apple's one server on the entire internet.
  • It then downloaded the update.
  • It then prepared the update.
  • It then rebooted the device to install the update.
  • After the updated was installed, my Lock Screen returned to view and it prompted me to enter my password.
  • I entered my password (first checking no thief was looking over my shoulder, I forgot to do this the first time I entered the password!!!!).
  • I was returned to my Home Screen.
  • I realised immediately everything felt more flawlesser and snappierish.
  • I concluded this was a thoroughly delightful update experience.

This is the Apple experience.

Thanks Tim & the whole team over at Apple.

Upgraded yesterday. iPhone, iPad, HomePods, Mac, Watch.

The timeline on homekit secure video works MUCH better now. It’s been jumpy/erratic since the homekit architecture upgrade in December. It’s usable now.

Before applying updates I usually reboot my phone and go through various apps and folders and delete and clear out all caches and deleted items and so forth so I was down to 102 GB being used before downloading the update, after the update was installed; which took a long time; we're now up to 112 GB being used, interesting, they're now requiring more space. o_O

iPhone update went fine. But my old iPad Pro (2015), not so smooth. Had the "Preparing" "Installing"....then the screen went black, which is normal. But it never turned back on.

Eventually I held down the home-power button for a good 15-20 seconds. Apple logo thankfully appeared. Still, the update took another 20 minutes to finish the install. All seems ok now, but my heart felt like it stopped for a second. 😬😬

This iPad Pro is "end of life" and will not get OS17..so one the final updates ever to this...and bricking it would have really been a bummer!

I installed the update yesterday, no issues so far.
Battery life has slightly improved though. Charged the phone to 92% last night and now it’s down to only 50% in the end of the next day. As an average to heavy phone user, this is some snappy battery indeed ! 😅
I used to end the day with about 20%-30% left in the previous version so there’s definitely some improvement.

iPhone 14 Pro Max, Battery health is at 100%.

I haven’t been posting much but I’m back for the hype for the new iPhones in a month or so.

What’s the battery health on everyone’s iPhone 14 Pro/Max? I installed this update and it’s gone down to 98% now. Coincidence?
My 14 Pro Max is still at 100%, no changes in battery health after the update. The phone is brand new though, just got it a few weeks ago. I guess it probably depends on your usage/how long you’ve had the phone. But it’s still pretty weird how just one update can drain battery health :)

Is 34% better than 20%. even if it's worse than 65% that it had at the end of the day before the latest few updates?

Twelve hours after updating, and my battery is is still at 100% - my phone if pretty new too. A few months old IIRC.

Update : For some reason, it was good only for one day. The battery has been notably draining faster in the past few days. :(

Can't seem to update to 16.6 from 16.5.1(c). It always says "Unable to Verify Update iOS 16.6 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet." My internet connection hasn't been interrupted and no firewalls are blocking anything. Can't update from my Mac either because it always wants to make a backup and my phone is as big as my MacBook so there's no space for it

Same

Were you able to update in the meantime? I tried using Finder and changed the iPhone backup folder location to a different drive but it still doesn't work (mostly because the backup is painfully slow -- over 16 hrs and it still couldn't finish...).

It took a couple of days but eventually it connected and was able to update successfully
