Hmmm... They work for me on iPhone 8 unless the phone is locked or I pull down and sideways to access them, it’s weird...

Yeah I'm having the exact same issue. A restart seems to have fixed it, hopefully it doesn't come back
Completely forgot about this thread! Yeah a hard reset sorted mine out too
Hard resets sort out so many issues that they’re usually my first go to for a fix, after (if it’s an issue with an app, especially with a third party app) quitting and reopening it or uninstalling and reinstalling it. If it’s a system level thing (widgets, Home Screen, notifications, network), I’ll usually hard reset first thing. And if the issue is still there? That’s when I file a bug report.
