Please fix the artwork bugs! On my iPhone 4 with iTunes Match on, the album artwork is crazy. It works half the time, and then if I look again, it's gone! Sometimes it will suddenly appear if I rotate the phone to Cover Flow, sometimes not. But no matter what, there's always a few albums that don't show artwork ever, even if I bought the album through iTunes! I never had a problem until I turned on iTunes Match. :(

The weirdest problem I ever had was with a music video. After I ran the initial scan, it "matched" something in my library with a Rodney Carrington video I've never owned or seen before in my life! I was like, thanks for the free video! You can have it back.

Hope this addresses whatever was making iTunes Match crash everytime. I manually have to turn off iTunes Match everytime I open iTunes. If I forget, iTunes will crash in about 2 minutes. Apple has gotten plenty of my error logs and from the forums, I wasn't alone.

Fingers crossed when I get home.

Didn't fix this problem for me.

Just a follow up. Mine is still causing iTunes to crash. Getting my money back for this piece of trash.

"it just works" fail

I got this error after updating 'iTunes Library cannot be saved (Error -54)'

This fixed it though- Close iTunes, delete iTunes Library.xml.

Didn't fix this problem for me.

What part of the "it just works" mantra didn't you get from the Apple Indoctrination?

Unless "grandma" immediately realizes that deleting random XML files buried deep inside Apple OSX directories is the best way to maintain her system.

Anyone know if this update fixes the smart playlist problem with Match?

For example, if I turn on Match on my iPhone, the songs and order of songs for smart playlists are all messed up. So messed up that I don't even use match on my iPhones/iPads.

I must be the only person here largely happy with iTunes Match. It works superbly. I did have to turn it off and back on on my iOS devices to get it sync at first, but ever since it's been gravy.

You're not the only one. I am for the most part happy with it too. I rarely look at whatever device I'm using to play music though, so the artwork issues I would not even see under normal circumstances.

I just installed the update and scrolling in iTunes with my Magic Trackpad is horrendous. The scrolling doesn't stop when my fingers stop (or change directions) and seems to have a slight 0.5s delay to it. Anyone else having this issue?

Nope your not the only one ;)

I love it, for me it has been nothing but awesome. Can't wait to try it out on my iPhone 4S when I but that on Wed.

In the past, though, it was more common, particularly with CDs pressed in Japan.

This would explain why I ran into this bug; about a month and a half ago, I bought an older Japanese CD and iTunes would rip it and it was full of distortion. Tried just to play the CD, same problem. Tried it on another computer with iTunes, same problem. Used a different app to play the CD, no problems.

To those having a problem getting iTunes Match to Match all songs from an album, I've found that one problem is oftentimes ever so slight oddities between the iTunes version and the CD version of a song. A consistent problem I've found has to do with track length on certain tracks, as well as where tracks are cut. I've been able to trim certain songs down in an audio editor to match the length of the iTunes track. For example, when rounded down, if it's 3:55 in iTunes, I trimmed a track that's maybe 3:56.578 to 3:55.346. Suddenly, songs started matching.

I also had a live album of the musical Aida that's cut differently towards the end on the CD when compared to iTunes. I can't remember which way it went, but let's just say that the same two iTunes tracks were combined as one track on the CD. So the song didn't match. I was able to cut the song into separate tracks of the right lengths and at the right spot and then get it to match the iTunes versions.

But this is obviously a time-consuming solution, and I only tested it out as an experiment to better understand the issues. I wasn't about to go and trim thousands of tracks in my library that didn't match perfectly, so I'm just waiting on it for now.

In my mind, they need to add another stage of matching to iTunes Match if it's not there already that's more like Shazam in analyzing the audio track and then giving us the opportunity perhaps to either approve what they match or upload. It takes away from the "it just works" element, but it's in beta still, and if they used the data generated from users manually correcting the system, they might be able to get a lot closer to "it just works." I'd be more than willing to jump into a separate program for that with a unique version of iTunes and iTunes Match. Sure, it'd take time, but it'd be worth it.

I don't feel like this is a long term issue. This is growing pains, and if I can help work through them, I'm willing. Generally speaking, I'm pretty happy with the service. It can only get better.

Not at all. Working perfectly. I've never had an issue with the Magic Trackpad. May be my favorite Apple innovation aside from the iPad in the last few years. Just a brilliant, brilliant little interface device.

It has never ceased to amaze me that Apple iTunes updates are not only incredibly bloated (100MB for a few fixes), but that they are almost twice the size of their Windows equivalent.

What does this tell us? Two things:

1. Apple is total crap when it comes to partial updating of their software. Sure it is simpler to just make everyone download another 100MB file, but is 100MB really necessary for a few bug fixes?

2. Mac software is bloated compared to Windows, even after they have made a new GUI set for Windows to give it the Mac look. In this vein I should add that Apple insult Windows users by forcing their UI upon Windows users (imagine if MS Office looked like Windows 7 on a Mac).

iTunes is bloatware and horribly slow. It often fails to tell the user that files have not been copied when by all appearance they have been. Apple should invest some of their 80 billion dollars to employ some better programmers and testers then perhaps iTunes could be a lot better, and they may also fix the sleep and WIFI problems that 1500 forum postings have complained about.

I just did the update on my Mac and it was 16MB download to update to this new iTunes version.

Concerning point 2 of your post about apple insulting windows users; What are they supposed to do? Change/downgrade the GUI to look like a messy windows program. I use both OSX and Win7, and prefer the Mac for nearly everything. Even MS Office looks cleaner and more intuitive on a mac. However I'm sure it has more features and functionality under Win 7. Windows GUI's are a sloppy mess. I can however, sympathize if you are not used to some of apple's software. At times it is overly simplistic and in software like iTunes where apple tries to maintain strict control over the environment it can be frustrating.

Yes, I am! When you scroll real fast, it doesn't come to a stop. Just keeps scrolling.

I'm also still seeing duplicates in my iPhone. I delete them both, and they both still show with Cloud icons next to them. Want to keep just one!

**** you're absolutely right. Hopefully they'll get a quick fix out.

Is downloading a ~ 100 mb file really that much of an issue for anybody with broadband? How long does that take? Five to ten minutes on a painfully slow connection. A couple minutes on a fast one.

I'm with you. I much prefer the Mac approach, rather than the Windows version which fills your Windows folder with (quite literally) hundreds of thousands of cryptically-named files, most of which you have no idea what they do.

Yeah, I don't get the complain either. 100MB loads in a few minutes, nothing to get aggravate by.

I'm only having an issue with the scrolling in the new iTunes. Every other application scrolls normally. I too love the Magic Trackpad and also have never had issues with it!

hmmm

I might be that your Trackpad needs batteries because mine is working flawlessly. I just scrolled through 20,000+ songs quickly and stopping, etc, and everything is working just dandy.

I hope the matching is better. I can match a song, download it, delete it and then add it back to my library as a matched AAC file but then it uploads like it can't match.

Also I have spent a ton of time since getting this service re-ripipng songs only to have them not match when I know they are in the iTunes store.

I have the same problem. For most of my issues it's just one or two songs from an album with the problem. I've even tried downloading the individual tracks and matching that way with no luck either. Seems some songs are just un-matchable.

Out of my library of a little over 10,000 songs 717 still will not match but I would say 15% of those are not available in iTunes altogether.

Still getting the old 10.5.1 page here

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1426

but if I use

http://km.support.apple.com/kb/DL1426

it shows 10.5.2. ;)

Not a huge issue as both pages redirect to the main apple.com/itunes/download page which is already serving 10.5.2 for me.

The only difference it really makes is the noted SHA checksums and the link to the 64bit Windows version.
eg:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427
vs
http://km.support.apple.com/kb/DL1427

Both are akamai servers, with km.support.apple.com being a local akamai server in Perth Australia (hosted by iiNet), but support.apple.com is coming from an akamai server in Singapore.

I guess akamai are slowly rolling this one out. Depending on your location YMMV.

Still over a hundred songs in Waiting status. Waiting for what? To be matched? To be uploaded? There's still no indication that anything's going on.
